24、Have you ever seen a car without a driver? It sounds crazy, but these computer-driven driverless cars will soon be filling roads near you. Companies like Google and Tesla are testing these cars, and the technology is there—they just need to see if they’re value for money and run final tests to check they can run alongside human-driven cars on the road.
So how do they work? The cars have sensors (传感器) all around which can detect other cars in the road. Sensors on the wheels also help when parking, so the car knows how far it is from other cars. Road signs are read by cameras, and satellite navigation systems (卫星导航系统) are used so the car knows how to get you where you need to go. All you have to do is type in the address! Finally, a central computer system takes in all the information it receives from the sensors and cameras and works out the best route.
Sound like great ideas? Sitting back, looking out of the windows and even watching a film or reading a book while driving would be possible with this new technology. You wouldn’t worry about remembering directions to where you’re going. They would also drive more safely than people—they don’t get distracted (分心) by music or friends, they would obey the speed limit and they have quicker reactions (反应) when they are in danger situation.
However, there are many drawbacks (缺点) of driverless cars. Computers would have difficulties making ethical (道德的) decisions: if a child runs into the road, will the computer choose to hit the child or make a turn and it may kill the car’s passengers? Moreover, people will lose the fun of driving. There are more things people have to think about—should children, or drunk people, be allowed in a driverless car by themselves? Or would there need to be an adult with a driving license in the car at all times?
Although driverless cars mean that no one needs a driving license, saving money for everyone, many people would be put out of a job by this invention. Bus, taxi, and train drivers may lose their jobs.
I’m not sure I’d want a driverless car—but it’s only a matter of time before they’ll become more affordable and commonplace on our roads.
【1】The second paragraph is about ________.
A.why driverless cars are popular
B.how driverless cars work on the road
C.when people can use driverless cars
D.which services the driverless cars can provide
【2】The writer thinks that driverless cars can ________.
A.be safer and react quicker than human drivers
B.know directions because they can look up the maps while driving
C.type in the address with the help of sensors and cameras
D.make ethical decision with the help of computers
【3】What is the writer’s opinion on the driverless cars? ________
A.Driverless cars are now popular on the road.
B.The writer couldn’t have the car because it is too expensive.
C.The writer suggests everyone should have this kind of car.
D.They have a bright future although they have some drawbacks.
【4】What is the best title for the passage? ________

25、My sister’s ten-year-old son came for a visit at the weekend one hot July. And I had to make him stay inside by joining him in a game. An hour later, I suggested that we relax a while. He slipped out of the room and I was catching a few moments of peace and quiet.
“Look, Alice,” he said happily as he ran over to the chair where I was having a rest. “I found a kite. Could we go outside and fly it?”
Looking out a nearby window, I noticed there was not a breeze (微风) at all. “I’m sorry, Tripper,” I said, sad to see his blue eyes. “The wind is not blowing today. The kite won’t fly.”
“ I think it’s windy enough. I can get it to fly.” He answered, as he hurried out of the back door. Up and down the yard he ran, pulling the kite with a small length of string (绳子). The plastic kite proudly had a picture of Batman. He ran as hard as his ten-year-old legs would carry him, looking back hopefully at the kite. After about ten minutes, he came back in.
I asked, “How did it go?” “Fine,” he said, not wanting to admit (承认) defeat. “I got it to fly some.” As he walked past me to return the kite to the closet shelf, I heard him say under his breath, “I guess I’ll have to wait for the wind.”
At that moment I heard another voice speak to my heart, “Alice, sometimes you are just like that. You want to do it your way instead of waiting for the wind.”
And the voice was right. We wait for the wind only after we have done all we can. We must learn how to depend on it in the first place!

26、 These days, teenagers are heavily influenced by the media (媒体). Many of them have watched thousands of hours of TV. That’s more time than they spend with teachers at school. And we haven’t yet considered the hours they spend using the Internet and reading newspapers.
However, several studies have shown a serious problem: today’s teenagers lack (缺乏) media literacy (媒体素养). In other words, they have difficultly critical (批判性的) thinking about the information they see. One study that was done on middle school students showed that more than 80 percent of them couldn’t tell the difference between real stories and ads that looked like news.
Stanford professor Kevin John teaches a class called Media Effects. He tries to help his students learn media literacy (媒体素养). The professor gave an example that shows why media literacy is important. In the example, two news stations report a snowstorm. One focuses on (关注) the terrible road conditions. The other focuses on kids playing in the snow. “With a news story. News stations tell you what they feel are the important details (细节). These details mostly depend on the opinions of the news director.” said John. “A person who has media literacy would realize that each story is about one side at this time. There is more going on.”
Some experts think school is the best place to teach media literacy. Others believe that everyone-from parents to reporters-should help teenagers learn the skills.
As for the best time to start learning media literacy, many experts suggest the age of 12. But some basic ideas can be taught even earlier. “It’s never too early to start learning media literacy,” John said.
根据短文内容,判断下列句子正误。正确的用“A”表示,不正确的用“B”表示。
【1】From the first paragraph, we can learn that teenagers today spend more time watching TV than studying at school.
【2】The example shows that a person who has media literacy couldn’t think about good or bad sides about a news story.
【3】Professor Kevin John would agree that children should be taught media literacy as early as possible.
【4】The main idea of the passage is how to develop teenagers’ media literacy.
