24、Thousands of years ago, in the south of ancient China, there lived Shen Nong, a man who had an ox (牛) head and human body. Seeing that local people were suffering from disease, he built ladders (阶梯) and houses on a high mountain to store hundreds of medical plants to help local people. To remember him, people named the place Shennongjia.
The legend (传说) makes Shennongjia in Hubei an inviting place for tourists. Traveling there is a unique experience, as you can see scenery (风景) of the four seasons from different altitudes (海拔).
“When the bottom of the mountain is summer, the top is spring and while the foothill is autumn, the top is covered with ice,” local people say of the special climate (气候) of Shennongjia.
Shennongjia is also home to 5,000 special animals and plants. Many animals in danger live there, such as the golden monkey, the clouded leopard (豹) and the Asian black bear.
One interesting and mysterious thing about Shennongjia is its legend of wild men. Some people once claimed (声称) that they saw big prints or big-foot creatures. Yet so far, scientists haven’t proved it is true and some say they are just bears.

26、Wu Ming, a 27-year-old German, is a big fan of Chinese culture, like the Shaolin kung fu. He has been learning TCM — traditional Chinese medicine since 2016. Now he is studying at Henan University of Chinese Medicine.
As he thought some illnesses can’t be treated well with Western medicine, he decided to study TCM. Wu came to Henan Province in 2015, where the TCM culture can be enjoyed because Henan Province is the hometown of Zhang Zhongjing. After learning the Chinese language for one year, he started to learn Chinese medicine. “TCM is one of the best parts in Chinese culture,” said Wu. He hopes to solve problems and understand Chinese culture by learning TCM.
Studying TCM also changed Wu’s mind and lifestyle. He used to spend much time playing computer games and stay up late every night, lost himself in this fast-paced but unhealthy lifestyle. But now, according to the Yin-Yang theory (理论) in TCM, he lives a healthy and peaceful life, practicing good habits such as drinking tea and sitting silently, as well as reading ancient books.
Wu also makes use of what he has learned to help his family. Acupuncture (针灸) tools and Chinese medicine were welcomed when he went back to his home in Germany. With acupuncture and Chinese-style massages, many physical health problems of his families have been solved. Now, he always provides his family with some advice about staying healthy after he checks their tongues (舌头) online. Over time, his family began to understand his passion about TCM.
In Wu’s opinion, there’s no big difference between China and Western countries. He plans to run a traditional Chinese clinic (诊所) in China or Germany after university, which could serve as a bridge between the two countries and make TCM and its culture known by more people.

27、Madame Tussauds is a wax(蜡像) museum in London, UK. French artist Marie Tussaud founded this museum over 200 years ago. It shows waxworks of famous and historic people, as well as popular film characters.
There are 16 Madame Tussauds in many big cities around the world, including New York, Tokyo and Sydney. The newly-opened Beijing museum is the fourth Madame Tussaud in China, following Hong Kong, Shanghai and Wuhan.
Each year, Madame Tussauds Studio makes about 40 to 50 figures. It takes nearly four months to make each sculpture, from getting the subject’s physical measurements to completing the work. Most famous people love to be portrayed(描绘) in wax. Some even donate their own clothes for the works. Boris Johnson, mayor of London, took off his suit and donated it after his sitting. His trousers still have a small hole that he tore(撕裂) on his bicycle chain.
However, Madame Tussauds is about more than just wax figures.
