24、Five girls from Haifa Primary School in Guizhou province are well known for their performance on Sina Weibo. That’s all thanks to their teacher Gu Ya.

As “the school in the clouds”, the school had fewer than 20 students and only one teacher in 2014. With no electricity or running water, the life wasn’t easy in the school, so there were few new teachers or students. Two years later, things changed because Gu came as a Chinese teacher. That year, the school got more than 60 students. And now it has more than 120 students.

Gu found that the students were too shy and quiet. So he decided to open their heart through music. In September 2018, he formed the school’s first band and put their practices on the Internet. Many people watched their videos. And the school band got more than 200 instruments from the kind-hearted people.

“I know the students may not study music in the future. But I will keep teaching them. I hope it could help children in the mountains to show themselves.” Gu said.

25、   Most Chinese parents have great expectations of their children. When children are born, their parents have planned everything for them. It is common for parents to want their children to be successful. However, many children in China are unhappy. They live a planned life and are forced to fulfill the dreams that their parents failed to achieve when they were young.

In my opinion, there are two sides to parents' expectations. The expectations can encourage children to work harder for a better life. According to some studies, whether a child will be successful or not depends largely on his or her parents' expectations. However, unrealistic(不切实际的)expectations can be harmful to children. Every child has his or her own thoughts ad hobbies. Parents' expectations can take children's freedom away. Wise parents allow their children to have some freedom. They encourage their children to do things they like to do and never judge them by their grades.

My parents' expectations of me are to be happy, kind and healthy. They never put too much pressure on me, and I live a happy life. However, I have my own dreams and ambitions. I keep working hard, though my parents do not force me to do so. I will never give up because my parents always encourage me when I am in trouble

In a word, I think parents' expectations are necessary. However, parents should not give their children too much pressure. Instead, give them enough freedom. Parents must ensure their expectations of their children are realistic so that their children will not lose their self-confidence.

26、As December comes to an end, you think about the new year and all the ways you want to improve your life. But as you start to write down your hopes for the new year, you think about the last year. You excitedly write down all the changes you are going to make, but by the end of January those ideas get lost in your busy life.

Here’s a suggestion: Forget the too big, hard to achieve goals and just think about the small ones. “We often think that we have to do everything in big steps, even though it’s so hard for us to reach it, said Robert Maurer, who recently wrote the book One Small Step Can Change Your Life. “What we try to do is to begin with such a small step that we can’t find any excuse not to do it.”

“Kaizen”, a Japanese word, is used to mean to change behavior and attitudes. During World WarⅡ, American factory managers were able to increase productivity by trying small, continuous improvements instead of sudden changes. After the war, the idea was brought to a rebuilding Japan. It made Japan develop fast. The Japanese called it “Kaizen”, which means “improvement”.

Maurer studied the idea and did some experiments with it. “Kaizen” could possibly help people succeed in doing everything.

【1】Robert Maurer wrote a book to tell us ______.

A. we should do everything in big steps

【4】Which of the following is TRUE from the passage?

A. You can achieve your goals if you are not too busy.

C. You can’t find any excuse not to reach a big goal.

27、People are always afraid of making mistakes. But sometimes it's not bad to make mistakes, and here is why.

At first, mistakes are a clear sign that you are trying new things. It's always good to try new things, because when you are trying new things you are growing. If you never try new things, how can you improve? How can you create? The simple answer is“You can't.” Look around you, everything you see is the result of someone trying new things.

Another good thing about mistakes is this: when you are making mistakes, you are learning. Consider this: Edison failed 10,000 times before he invented the light bulb. When he was asked how he felt to fail that many times, he said that he hadn't failed 10,000 times, but rather had learned 10,000 things that didn't work.

Finally, when you make a mistake, you are that much closer to success. Why? Because you have said what you should say, and you have done what you should do. Every time you make a mistake, you are closer to success. But it doesn't mean that you can make mistakes without thinking. Instead, when you try new things you have to think them over, so that you can keep away from some unnecessary mistakes.

We shouldn't spend all our time and money on the only one way, but use them correctly. Because our time and money are limited (有限的).

There is an old saying, “If you are not making mistakes, you are not trying hard enough.” So go bravely and make mistakes. And learn. And grow. And succeed.

1If you are making a mistake, that means________.

A. you're careful   B. you're kind

C. you're growing   D. you know nothing

2If you never try new things, you can't________.

A. improve   B. create   C. spend   D. A and B

3After Edison failed 10,000 times, he________.

A. gave up

B. invented the light bulb

C. invented the computer

D. invented 10,000 new things

4When you make a mistake, you are closer to________.

A. time   B. money   C. success   D. everything

5What's the main idea of the passage?

A. Never make mistakes.

B. You can make mistakes without thinking.

C. Sometimes it's good to make mistakes.

D. Making mistakes is terrible.
