25、China’s railway miracles (奇迹) have been on since last century. It is seen as one of the new four great inventions in modern China.

During the Qing Dynasty, building a railway without other countries’ help was believed to be impossible. But Zhan Tianyou, an engineer of the Jingzhang Railway, overcame all kinds of difficulties and succeeded in finishing the task. The 200-kilometer-long Jingzhang railway was completed in 1909. As China’s first independently-designed (自主设计) railway, it plays an important part in Chinese railway history.

110 years later, the world’s first intelligent, high-speed railway line, connecting Beijing and Zhangjiakou, came into operation. The railway line is 174 kilometers long with 10 stations. Running at a high speed of 350 km/h, the railway line has greatly reduced the travel time between Beijing and Zhangjiakou, from over 3 hours to only 47 minutes. Some trains on the Beijing—Zhangjiakou line are smart because they provide 5G signals and wireless charging (无线充电) for passengers. These trains can start, open and close doors, and deal with problems by themselves.

All the ten stations provide e-tickets for passengers. Passengers who have bought e-tickets online can use their ID cards instead of waiting in line for paper tickets. They are convenient and help save much paper every year.

In addition, the Badaling Great Wall station, the deepest underground railway station, is another great example of the country’s miracles in railway building.

【1】Jingzhang railway is important in Chinese railway history probably because _________.

D.Passengers.

【4】What can be the best title for this text?

A.The speed of Chinese railway.

B.The history of Chinese railway.

C.The changes of Chinese railway.

D.The miracles of Chinese railway.

Today’s grandparents are joining their grandchildren on smartphones, but the different generations’ (一代人) digital (数码的) habits could be more different.

Sara is a 59-year-old woman. She uses the smartphone (智能手机) to see what her grandchildren are doing because her daughter puts videos and photos of them online. Sara’s grandchildren are using smartphones more often than Facebook. Chloe, a 15-year-old girl, even sleeps with her phone. “It’s my alarm clock,” she says. “I look at it before I go to sleep and as soon as I wake up.”

Young people might thank for their smartphones but their parents disagree. Peter, a father of two kids, is trying to stay away from smartphones. “In the past, I used my smartphone so often that I felt like I was always working,” he says. “If I always use the smartphone, how could I tell my kids to get off their phones?” So, in the evenings and on weekends, he uses an old mobile phone.
