24、The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics was a great success. China has kept the promise to hold a green Olympics. Many green actions made it possible, like providing environmentally friendly smart beds, using new energy(能源) cars, supporting sporting places with 100% clean energy and reusing rain and snow water.
Take making ice as an example. China didn’t use R507, a common material to make ice, because it isn’t friendly enough to the environment. Through 18 months’ hard work, China independently developed the CO₂ direct cooling technology.
A net of tubes runs under the ice. High-pressure liquid(液态) CO₂ goes through them to create heat(热) exchange. The CO₂ evaporates(蒸发) under the ice surface. The evaporation takes in heat and turns water on the surface into ice. And the CO₂ goes into another circle. This technology helps to make ice better and faster. And above all, it is much greener because there’s no new CO₂ produced. Among all the 15 ice sporting places in the Winter Olympics, 7 used the CO₂ direct cooling technology to make ice. As a result, much less pollution was caused.
Beijing did so much more to save energy. Beijing built the new sporting places with green materials. As for the old ones, Beijing used new glass walls to take the place of traditional walls to let more natural light in. 70% of the waste heat was also reused to keep warm and dry. And a large number of new energy cars were used at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics is the first to truly achieve carbon neutrality(碳中和), and it has set new standards in green technologies. Some newspapers say China has set an example for the world in environmental protection and green development.

25、 "Five more minutes" is the first thought of many people when their alarms ring in the morning. This first thought is usually followed by hitting the snooze button(小睡催醒按钮)and falling back asleep for a few more moments. Hitting the snooze button has become a habit for millions of people, but it is time to examine this habit and develop new habits for feeling more rested during the day.
Though hitting the snooze button allows people a few more minutes of sleep, it causes unhealthy sleep patterns(模式).Most people think if they are tired when they first wake up, they need more sleep. However, they are mistaken when they conclude that any sleep is good sleep. Sleeping is a process with different cycles. To feel fully rested, the body must go through all the sleep cycles. Falling back asleep after hitting the snooze button restarts the process, but when the alarm rings again several minutes later, the process is interrupted. The body has not gone through all the cycles, and this can cause the body to feel sleepy for the rest of the day. This sleepiness can affect memory, the ability to make choices, and performance at work or school.
Sleepiness may also happen if the body's biological rhythm(规律)is interrupted. People normally fall asleep at night and wake up in the morning because their rhythms are operating naturally. The rhythms are affected by repeated use of the snooze button, which can cause feelings of sleepiness during the day and an inability to fall asleep at night.
Rather than depending on the snooze button, people need to consider developing different routines. The easiest choice is to put the alarm on the other side of the room. Having to get out of bed to turn it off decreases the possibility of hitting the snooze button. Another choice, if your routine allows it, is to just reset the alarm. Setting your alarm for 30 minutes later will make the whole sleep process longer instead of always restarting it. However, it must be stressed that getting up 30 minutes later in the morning is not an excuse to stay up 30 minutes later the night before.
Though a few extra minutes of sleep may seem to promise a better start to the day, hitting that snooze button creates an unhealthy sleep pattern.
【1】The second paragraph is mainly about .
A.what unhealthy sleep patterns most people have
B.what people should do to feel fully rested in the day time
C.why people feel like going back to sleep after first waking up
D.why a few minutes of sleep after first waking up causes bad effects
【2】What can we learn from the passage?
A.Hitting the snooze button helps people fall asleep at night.
B.People wake up because their biological rhythms are interrupted.
C.Getting up several minutes later helps people feel more energetic.
D.Putting the alarm a bit far from the bed helps form healthy sleep habits.
【3】Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A.Don't Wake Up Late! B.Don't Use Alarm Clocks!
C.Don't Touch That Button! D.Don't Change Sleep Patterns!
26、Double Ninth Festival is also called Chongyang Festival. It is the day for people to climb mountains, drink chrysanthemum (菊花) wine and eat Chongyang cake.
It is said that by climbing up a high mountain, diseases could be prevented. Many widely known poems written by poets in the Tang Dynasty were created to describe the scene and feeling of mountain climbing. Now, family members or good friends get together to climb mountains to enjoy the beautiful scenery and share happiness of the holiday with each other.
Chrysanthemums are in full bloom during the festival, it is a pleasure to enjoy big chrysanthemum show. People always admire Chrysanthemum with family on that day. Because it can drive the evil (邪恶) away. People often think that by drinking chrysanthemum wine, all kinds of diseases and disasters can be prevented.
Chongyang Cake is a kind of steamed cake having two floors with nuts (坚果) and jujube (枣) put between them. Since cake in Chinese is pronounced “gao” meaning high, personal progress is thought to be made in the following days after eating the cake.

27、As we are writing this book, we are in Venice, Italy, speaking at a meeting on cultural differences.
If we had never travelled to Italy, we would have been shocked by what we’d experienced. All cultures walk on the same side of the pavement as they drive on the road. This means if you’re British, Australian, South African or a New Zealander, you drive and walk to the left. What you’d find is that Italians sometimes bump into you as you walk on the pavement because, as they come near and you move to your left, they move to their right.
You’d also be shocked when you go to shake hands to say goodbye to an Italian but, instead, you get a kiss on both cheeks. “As I was leaving, the Italian man kissed me on both cheeks. I was tying my shoelaces(鞋带) at the time!” Woody Allen wrote in her article.
As you talk with local Italians, they seem to stand in your space, holding your arms, talking over the top of you, shouting in fact, and sounding angry about everything. But these things are a normal part of everyday friendly Italian communication. Not all things in all cultures mean the same things.
When they talk, Italians use their entire arms and body, while English people and Germans stand at attention. Italians keep their hands held high as a way to mean that they want to go on talking. Arm touching during an Italian conversation doesn’t show love or affection, but is nothing more than a way of stopping the listener from raising his hands and taking the turn to talk. To interrupt an Italian you must catch his hands in mid air and hold them down.
【1】Which of the following is true?
A.Italians drive and walk to the right.
B.Italians drive on the same side as the British.
C.Italians like to bump into others when they walk.

A.all cultures drive and walk on the same side
