二、阅读理解(共4题,共 20分)

21、While most of us are familiar with the fun and excitement of taking a vacation with family or friends, far fewer people have set out on a holiday by themselves. There are plenty of benefits to plan a solo(单独的) travel as your next getaway. 【1】 We've got a whole list of reasons why you should consider travelling alone.

• You' re in charge of the itinerary(行程)

Did you ever have the unfortunate experience of being dragged to a crowded tourist trap with your family or miss out on a one-of-a-kind destination because none of your friends were interested? That all goes out the window when you're in complete control of the itinerary. 【2】 Travelling solo provides the perfect opportunity to visit the sequestered(隐蔽的) sites you've had marked on a map for years.

• Plenty of chances to meet new people

When visiting a new place alone, you really have no choice but to communicate with new people. 【3】 Locals not only have insider information that you won't find in a guidebook, but speaking with someone native to the country is a great way to learn about their culture.

• Expand your comfort zone

【4】 Between practicing your real-world conversation skills in a foreign language and trying unfamiliar food, travelling alone forces you to face a variety of new situations. When you only have yourself to rely on, you have a real opportunity to learn what you're capable of.

• A chance to stop and reflect

Whether you plan on getting close to nature or just spending an afternoon daydreaming at a sidewalk cafe, travelling alone offers a unique chance to pause and see things from a new view. Add in the experience of a new culture and the chance to interact with people of different backgrounds. 【5】

A.Not convinced yet?

B.Everyone has unique interests.

C.Step out of your comfort zone and achieve your goal.

D.Gelling outside of your comfortable box is tough at first.

E.Spending time alone in a new place forces you to try new things.

F.And you'll come back from a solo vacation with a new outlook on life.

G.It might seem frightening, but talking to local people has many benefits.

22、Sodas such as Coke or Pepsi are responsible for adding to health problems like tooth problems and obesity (肥胖). So health leaders have recommended teens cut back on sugar-sweetened sodas. However, their push may have had an unplanned result. Many of the advertisements aimed at teens show fit athletes having sugar-sweetened sports drinks. They make sports drinks look like a healthy choice for teens compared to sodas. As a result, teens are turning to this kind of drink.

Scientists at Harvard University in Massachusetts focused on teens, who are considered more likely than younger kids to buy their drinks. In 2015, 22,000 high school students were surveyed, and almost 6 in 10 of them reported having at least one sports drink in the past week. That was up slightly from 2010. The Harvard study found that almost one-third of teens drank one to three sports drinks in the previous week. Just over 1 in10 reported having four to six drinks. Teens who played on sports teams were likely to have one or more sports drinks each day. Boys were more likely than girls to have the drinks, scientists found.

The same was true for teens who watched more than two hours of television. Scientists say they are concerned because of ties between TV watching, ads, and obesity. Experts say that many children don’t need a sports drink that is full of carbohydrates (碳水化合物) and sweeteners. This especially applies to children sitting in front of a TV. The better option is water or unsweetened drinks.

“There is no reason to have carbohydrates in sports drinks unless you are in a high-level game, said Nyree Dardarian, the leader of the Center for Integrated Nutrition and Performance. “Someone on a long bike ride or in an all-day race might want to have one. If children are playing for 20 minutes, they just need water.”

There are other choices. Water and oranges would provide all of the recommended amounts of vitamin C for kids. Other ideas include flavoring water by adding fruit to it. Kids can also add a small amount ofjuice.

【1】What unplanned result may health leaders’recommendation cause?

A.Teenagers are turning to sports drinks instead of sodas.

B.Teenagers are being confused by different ads of drinks.

C.Teenagers are buying more sugar-sweetened sodas.

D.Teenagers are having more health problems.

【2】What is the Harvard study mainly about?

A.Teenagers’ favorite kinds of sports drinks.

B.Teenagers’ habits of having sports drinks.

D.The group with the greatest tendency to drink sports drinks.

【3】What does the underlined word “This” in Paragraph 3 refer to?

A.Playing on sports teams.

23、The kid’s face is glowing green from the iPad in her hands, which shows a cartoon boy singing a nursery rhyme and dancing with dinosaurs. She’s so attracted that she doesn’t respond when her mother calls her name. “It’s literally like crack for her,” says her mom Meng Zhou at their home.

It is CoComelon, which may be the most streamed children’s entertainment program in the world. The show was watched for 33 billion minutes last year and had 3.6 billion views on YouTube in January, as many as three-quarters of whom were from outside the U. S. . CoComelon was a Top 10 show on Netflix for more than 100 straight days in 2021, and its music is streamed 1.3 million times a day on Spotify.

CoComelon is not only a ratings juggernaut (收视率主宰). It’s also a model for a new approach to children’s TV. A room of adults could work very hard for years on a concept that helped kids learn important ideas, only to find out viewers weren’t interested. CoComelon’s parent company, Moonbug Entertainment, searches digital platforms like YouTube for popular kids’ programming to figure out what the audience want to watch.

It’s clear that much of CoComelon’s popularity is caused by this program. As parents juggled childcare and remote work, demand for kid content increased greatly, thus making CoComelon successful. The success of the show is the influence that CoComelon has on babies and kids. You can see the evidence in the dozens of TikTok videos showing kids who hear the marimba tones of its theme song. And, Zhou’s daughter’s third word, after Mama and Dada, was CoCo.

As the show and others like it become inescapable, parents are going to have to deal with whether this type of children’s programming works for their families. Sure, their kids may love it — but does that mean it’s any good for them?

【1】Why does the author mention the kid in the first paragraph?

A.To explain a phenomenon.

B.To introduce a topic.

C.To make a prediction.

D.To present a fact.

【2】What do we know about Cocomelon from the text?

A.It only attracts babies and kids in the U. S.

B.Its music is streamed 1. 3 million times a day on Netflix.

D.It is the most popular entertainment program on YouTube.

【3】What does the underlined word “juggled” mean in Paragraph 4?

A.Balanced.

B.Matched.

C.Compared.

D.Connected.

【4】What’s the author’s attitude towards the popularity of Cocomelon?

A.Objective.

24、“Practice makes perfect” is a very popular expression. However, can we take this saying literally? Many scientific studies have sought to either prove or disprove this idea.

One popular theory is that if a person practises for at least 10,000 hours, they will reach “perfection”, or become an expert in their field. This theory was made famous by Malcolm Gladwell in his 2008 best selling book, Outliers: The Story of Success. He mentioned the music group The Beatles and Microsoft co-creator Bill Gates. Although they all seemed to have lots of natural talent, they also clearly put in over 10,000 hours of practice before they became successful.

Gladwell’s work was largely based on research done by Anders Ericsson, who argued that Gladwell misinterpreted his research. Firstly, Ericsson stated that 10,000 hours was an average figure. Some people needed far fewer than 10,000 hours, and others many more. More importantly, Ericsson said that just practising a lot was not enough; the type and quality of practice was also essential. He went on to explain the importance of “deliberate practice”, which is when a person practises a specific part of a skill in depth rather than practising a skill as a whole.

A more recent study from Princeton University stated that practice only accounted for up to 26% of reaching an expert level. Many people say that natural talent has a large influence on becoming an expert. Another natural factor is physical superiority, which is especially evident in sports. IQ, personality, attitude, and starting age are decisive, too. But becoming an expert doesn’t equal instant success, which also relies on social and environmental factors.

In conclusion, practice may not make perfect, but deliberate practice has been shown to lead to significant improvement. Based on Ericsson’s research, here are some tips on how to practise effectively: be motivated; make specific and realistic goals; work outside your comfort zone; be consistent and persistent; and get plenty of rest! For those wanting to become an expert in something, remember that being motivated is key-enjoy what you do and follow your passions.

【1】How did Gladwell support his idea?

A.By listing numbers.

B.By using examples.

C.By interviewing famous people.

D.By mentioning other researchers.

【2】Which of the following may Ericsson disagree with?

A.Practice alone is far from enough.

B.10,000 hours of practice leads to success.

C.Practice hours vary from person to person.

D.Deliberate practice is much more effective.

【3】What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about?

A.The role of practice.

B.Factors in creating experts.

C.The importance of natural talent.

D.Warnings for experts.

【4】What is the author’s attitude to the idea “Practice makes perfect”?

A.Favorable.

B.Intolerant.

C.Doubtful.

四、书面表达(共1题,共 5分)

26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Mother had just taken her temperature —and it’s over 38℃. She’d got the illness that’s going around.

It’s right after lunch. The older children were at school, and the baby was sleeping. There’s no reason why Mother could not go to bed. But she had a few things to do first. Mix the meat loaf for dinner. Leave a note for the cleaners. Find someone to serve coffee for her at the meeting tonight. Put in the next load of washing. Carry out the garbage.

At last, she sank into bed. Ah-h-h-h-! Her aching legs felt comfortable from the cool sheets. Her burning eyes closed. She felt asleep fast!

Then, suddenly the front door banged open as the children burst home from school. “Mum! Mum! Where are you?” Mother tried to answer but their cries drowned out her weak calls. Soon they found her in bed.

“Didn’t you even get up yet?” cried the younger girl.

“How am I going to get to Bill’s?” asked the little boy.

“What about dinner? We’ve got to eat,” said the older girl.

Mother understood. She knew that the children were not used to a mother in bed. “I’m sick,” she said. “I can’t do anything. I’ll just have to leave it all to you. She sighed. “Cook the potatoes ... take care of the baby ... set the table.”

The children ignored her words and dashed off like soldiers going into battle. For a time Mother was left to the quiet of her room and the ache in her head.

Then Father came home. He came into the bedroom, dropped heavily on the side of the bed and reached for her hand. “What’s wrong with you, Darling?” Father asked. He looked tired. Mother started worrying about him. “It’s nothing—just this illness that’s going around,” she said. “I can get up and do dinner and...”

Father shook his head. “You stay right here. Don’t worry about anything. The kids and I will take over.”
