二、阅读理解(共4题,共 20分)

21、Body language or, as it is also known, nonverbal communication, is about all the things that people say and do without using words. Research suggests that more than 70% of communication occurs without people having to say a single word.

Like language, the way we communicate nonverbally varies across cultures. But, unlike language, it can be very difficult to find out what the nonverbal rules are.

It’s very well-known that there are differences in the ways that cultures work, but what can you do to try to prepare yourself for living and surviving in another culture?

I think you’ve got two things to think about. I personally don’t fully accept the idea of “When in Rome, do as the Romans do. ” I don’t think people expect you to completely adopt all of the things that they do. What I think people would like is that you agree and understand it and that you do your best.

One of the things you can do is actually to explain to the other culture, saying, “Well, you know, actually we don’t normally kiss in my culture, so it’s a bit uncomfortable.” But then do your best, so it’s a learning process.

Well, kissing is just one of many different ways of interaction that you need to know. You can get into difficult or embarrassing or even worse situations if you don’t know it. Eye contact, tone of voice, how close you stand, any touching, how many times you kiss, a long handshake, a short handshake, it can go on and on. So I think, yes, you do need to get these correct and you need to have good observation skills.

Get under something heavy.【4】 If possible, get under something heavy like a desk or table.Cover your head.Get down low and make sure that you are protected from things that might be falling in your home.

Find other supports if you cannot shelter under something. If you’re not able to get under a table or other forms of protection, get next to an interior wall.Make yourself as small as possible.Cover your head and protect yourself while the shaking is going on.

【2】 I missed my target. An ambulance took me to a hospital. They both got car sick pretty bad, but still offered to come to support and translate for me.

When we got to the hospital, they helped me get through it. 【3】 So every time I needed to update my parents, they had to go somewhere else with my phone to text them.

24、A Swedish man was dug out alive after being snowed in his car on a forest track for two months with no food, police and local media reported on Saturday.

The 45-year-old from southern Sweden was found on Friday, February17, too weak to say more than a few words.

He was found not far from the city of Umea in the north of Sweden by snowmobilers who thought they had come across a ruined car until they dug their way to a window and saw movement inside.

The man, who was lying in the back seat in a sleeping bag, said he had been in the car since December 19.

“Just incredible that he’s alive considering that he had no food, but also since it’s been really cold for some time after Christmas,” a rescue team member told regional daily Vasterbottens- Kuriren, which broke the news. Ebbe Nyberg, duty officer at the Umea police, said police saw no reason to doubt that the man had been stuck in the car for a very long time.

“We would not make up something like this. The rescue services were on site too and saw the same as us.” he told Vasterbottens-Kuriren.Umea University Hospital, where the man is recovering after being rescued by police and a rescue team, said in a statement he was doing well considering the circumstances.

Doctors at the hospital said humans would normally be able to survive for about four weeks without food. Besides eating snow, the man probably survived by going into a dormant-like(休眠似的) state, physician Stefan Branth told Vasterbottens-Kuriren.

“A bit like a bear that hibernates. Humans can do that.” he said. “He probably had a body temperature of around 31 degrees which the body adjusted to. Due to the low temperature, not much energy was used up.”

“Why the man ended up under the snow in the forest remains unknown,” police said.

C. he was in a dormant-like state

D.he did not use any energy
