二、阅读理解(共4题,共 20分)

21、When life is stressful, it’s very easy to give in to feelings of anger or depression. 【1】 Here are some ways that can help you better deal with a wide range of negative emotions.

·Acknowledge your feelings.

Dealing with negative emotions can be difficult. But it’s important to allow yourself to experience those emotions. Suppressing(抑制)them can cause stress. 【2】 For example, if you are feeling nervous, ask yourself, “What am I afraid of?” Acknowledging the issue can help you figure out how to handle it.

·Change your environment.

【3】 Try changing your space to make it a more calming place. For example, if your negative emotions arise from feeling out of control, try organizing your space. Clearing up the mess can make you feel on top of things.

【4】

When you know that something is causing a negative emotion, try to shift your focus away from that situation. For example, if you are stuck in a traffic jam and running late, listen to your favorite CD. Focusing on something positive can help to calm you down.

·Talk about your feelings.

Talking about your negative emotions is very productive. It is a good idea to let your loved ones know your feelings. Try saying, “I’ve been really stressed out lately. Do you have time to talk things through with me?” 【5】 It’s fine to express anger or frustration, but do so without shouting.

A.It’s time to figure out what causes them.

B.Shift your focus away from the bad thing.

C.Be calm and reasonable while you are talking.

D.You don’t have to put too much effort into them.

E.When you experience a negative emotion, acknowledge it.

F.However, you will be more productive if you can handle them.

G.Small changes can have a big impact on your emotional health.

22、In daily life, there are many cases where we need to write a letter of apology. The following are some tips for writing a good letter of apology.

Acknowledge your mistakes. At the beginning of the letter, you have to state clearly what you have done. 【1】Otherwise, things will become worse. If necessary, you can seek help from your parents or counselors.

Face the facts. Don't use indirect language. 【2】 This helps you sound sincere and shows that you are not trying to escape the blame. Otherwise the letter of apology will not carry any weight. Using “I” statements is better as they put the focus on you.

【3】 When you are apologizing, it is easier to blame the situation. Don't try to do that. It will only worsen the situation. Don't explain yourself either, because this shows you don't treat the mistake seriously.

Make an apology sincerely. Even though there was a reason why you acted in a certain way, don't put it in the letter【4】 Besides, your efforts to apologise will be in vain.

Keep your promises. It is quite easy to say what other people want to hear, but it will bring disappointment if you fail to keep your promises or if you keep repeating the mistakes. 【5】

A.Do better in the future.

B.Don't blame the situation.

C.Don't try to prove your acts are right.

D.So only promise whatever you can achieve.

E.State directly that you have made that mistake.

F.It could be considered as an excuse you are making.

G.You can learn from each incident, whether it is good or bad.

23、A pacer is someone who runs in races or marathons to help set the pace for runners. There are different types of pacers. A race pacer usually carries a sign highlighting a specific competition time for a race. He helps runners reach their goals without relying on technology, such as a smart watch or GPS. Professional pacers are used in long-distance races. They run at different sections of the race to inspire runners. A record pacer helps a professional runner set a new record, who often leads the race for a predetermined distance at a predetermined pace.

A runner being paced runs directly following a pacer. Having a pacer can be helpful for a long-distance runner because researches show that it takes more energy to lead in a race all through the race than to follow another runner. The pacer takes on the responsibility of timing and establishing the pace so the runner only has to focus on his own running. Having a pacer as a guide in a long race can take some of the stress and pressure off by keeping an even pace. The pacer may also provide encouragement along the way to work towards the goal.

There are times, though, when running with a pacer can be more stressful than beneficial for a runner — especially for amateur runners. Not having taken professional training, you set a goal to run a particular pace, but then you realize this may not be the best speed for you. In some cases, the pacer is running too quickly for what you can stand. Other times, you could misjudge your abilities and run a slower pace than what your body can bear.

It is important to note that you don’t have to stay with a pacer just because you started with him. If you feel strong at the end and want to finish faster, you can run ahead. Or if he is too fast, you could slow down and maybe even join the slower pace group behind you.

【1】What does a record pacer do?

A.He provides technical support.

B.He helps a runner keep the record.

C.He offers medical help to a runner.

D.He leads a professional runner at a speed set beforehand.

【2】What does the underlined word “amateur” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?

A.Injured.

B.Legendary.

C.Unprofessional.

D.Graceful.

【3】What advice does the author give us in the last paragraph?

A.Changing pacers from time to time.

B.Following the pacer strictly all through the race.

C.Giving up something and preparing for a breakthrough.

D.Listening to your body and doing what feels right for you.

【4】In which section of a website can the text be found?

A.Sport and fitness.

B.Science and technology.

C.History and culture.

D.Health and lifestyle.

24、Winemakers in the Rioja area in northern Spain make some of the best wine in the world. But in recent years, winemakers there have been having difficulty producing good wine. They say when the temperature was cooler, the wine tasted better, but it was 2.2 degrees Celsius higher than average in 2022. Now, a genetic research has shown that grape vines living for more than 35 years are better able to deal with high temperatures brought by climate change.

Researchers like Pablo Carbonell think older grape vines may be able to grow better in higher temperatures. Carbonell looks at rows of gray shapes on his computer screen. Among them was a green rectangle, which represents a kind of grape vine that produces grapes that take longer to ripen, even in warmer conditions.A longer ripeness period is what winemakers want. The current vines produce grapes that are ready to pick too early. Such grapes do not make wine that has the right color and smell and has too much alcohol.

People who work in the vineyards have long crossed old vines with new ones. Now they are working with special laboratories to find a climate-resistant vine. One of them is the Vine and Wine Research Institute, known as the ICVV in Spain. The lab is working to keep the Spanish wine making industry alive as temperatures rise. The scientists there are studying the genomes(基因组)of commonly used grapes in wine and looking for traits,or qualities, that might permit the vines to survive in a warmer climate instead of looking for mutation(变异)that causes diseases.

In addition to the genetic research, scientists are also working on different planting methods.A winery called RODA is planting vines in a curve instead of a straight line. The hope is that plants will soak up more water this way. The new vineyard is made up of vines that were over 100 years old and moved from another place.

Maria Santolaya is an agricultural engineer and part of RODA’s technical team. She said the hot weather was very problematic. But,“our biggest concern,”she added,“is what will happen in 20 or 30 years. We don’t really know how things will come out.”

【1】What mainly causes the quality of wine to decline in Spain?

A.Shortage of rainfall.

B.High temperature.

C.Genetic variation.

D.Geographical location.

【2】What does the Carbonell’s research find in paragraph 2?

A.Grapes picked too early won’t have the sugar content.

B.Grapes with a longer ripeness period make good wine.

C.Grapes in hot regions won’t lose their original flavor.

D.Grapes from older vines have a rise in production.

【3】What is being done to keep the Spanish winemaking industry alive?

A.Make use of older grape vines.

B.Develop disease-resistant grape vines.

C.Replace old grape vines with new ones.

D.Cultivate grape vines with abundant water.
