二、阅读理解(共4题,共 20分)

21、Achieving a healthy work-life balance — an idea that has spread to countries around the world — has become one of the primary social goals today. This has resulted in an immediate need for companies to allow for a variety of work styles such as working from home, while also providing a friendly work environment that can bring out the best in each employee.

It all sounds very promising, but in reality, most offices today feature the same boring designs. To make matters worse, air conditioning is often kept to a minimum to cut electricity costs, while windows are covered with blinds to prevent dizziness from longer exposure to natural light. Employees who work indoors are forced to spend most of their days in these unpleasantly warm environments. Since the choice is to build costly new offices that are brighter and more open, there is a real need for solutions that can create a sense of brightness and openness.

This is where Mitsubishi Electric’s revolutionary new technology comes into play. It is a lighting solution to produce the exact deep blue color of a clear sky. Using this technology, offices can work in a way that was not possible with previous LED lights.

The blue skies that are seen on a clear day are produced by what is known as Rayleigh scattering (散射). Because blue light waves are shorter than red light waves, they are scattered towards us more strongly — this is why the sky looks blue during the day.

Mitsubishi Electric’s LED skylight uses the same phenomenon to artificially create the sky’s deep blue quality. It is made up of a slim sky blue panel (嵌板) and a four-sided frame. Of the four frames, only three are lit up at any given time, while the fourth remains dark as if the light were entering at an angle — an important detail that creates the false idea of actual sunlight pouring in through a skylight. Thanks to this technology, one can remain in a closed room and still enjoy the great excitement of looking up at a deep blue sky.

【1】What is a healthy work-life balance like according to the writer?

A.It brings out the best of every employer.

B.It includes different kinds of work styles.

C.It encourages employees to work indoors.

D.It improves employees’ health conditions.

【2】What is the second paragraph mainly about?

A.The costly choices of most old offices.

B.The promising future of office workers.

C.The virtual solutions to improve productivity.

D.The work conditions in the offices today.

【3】How does Mitsubishi Electric’s LED skylight work?

A.By letting actual sunlight pour in.

B.By lighting three sides of the frames.

C.By changing the previous LED light.

D.By showing pictures the deep blue sky.

【4】Which of the following can best describe the effect of Mitsubishi Electric’s LED skylight?

A.Pleasant.

B.Close.

C.Dizzy.

D.Colorful.

22、Feeling overwhelmed by your to-do list can certainly make you unhappy, but a new study released last week suggests that more free time will not actually make people as happy as they commonly believe it will.

The researchers collected data from two large scale surveys, which included more than 35,000 replies. They found that people with up to two hours of free time a day generally had higher levels of well-being than those with less time. But people who had five or more hours of free time a day generally said they felt worse.

So the free-time “sweet spot” might be two to three hours per day, the findings suggest. “While being too busy can cause stress, having more time is not always better,” said Marissa Sharif, an assistant professor at The Wharton School,in a press release.

Experts note, for example, that some adults struggle with the “retirement blues,” which can be due to a lack of stimulation (刺激) and structure, among other things. The “sweet spot” seems to have something to do with how people spend the extra time they have, the researchers behind the new study argue.

They conducted several smaller online experiments. In one they asked participants to imagine having 3½ to seven free hours per day, and to imagine spending that time doing “productive" things (like exercising) or to imagine doing “unproductive” activities (like watching TV). The participants believed their well-being would suffer if they had a lot of free time during the day—but only if they used it unproductively.

Though that experiment was hypothetical, which is one limitation of the new research, it's certainly in line With other researches showing that being in a state of “flow” can be good for people's mental health. In other words, how people use their free time matters.

“In cases when people do find themselves with excessive amounts of spare time, such as retirement or having left a job,” Sharif said, “our results suggest these individuals would benefit from spending their newfound time with purpose.”

【1】What's the common belief about “free time”?

A.More free time will bring people much happiness.

B.Too much free time will make one feel worse.

C.Less free time will make life full.

D.One is happy in his free time whatever he does.

【2】Why do some adults suffer from “retirement blues”?

A.Because they find it struggling to deal with daily life.

B.Because they find life is dull with too much free time.

C.Because they are not used to retirement life.

D.Because their life lacks care and warmth.

【3】What's the limitation mentioned of the new study?

A.The study lacks data from participants.

B.The study doesn't agree with the others.

C.The number of participants is small.

D.The experiment is imagined.

【4】Which one will probably benefit from their free time?

A.Mrs. Wang, retired, spends over six hours watching TV.

B.Alex, a salesman, does one hour's reading and another hour's jogging.

C.Mr. Yang, a 996 programmer, struggles to find an hour to tutor his son.

D.Catherine, a stay-at-home mom, kills her free time purposelessly.

23、Bioprinting is the medically and bio-technologically equal to 3D printing. By using the same principles, the aim is to rapidly develop living structures similar to human-grown organs and tissue that can be used to heal people or test new drugs.

Of course, printing biological tissue is much more complex than building a mechanical part. There are complex layers of cells in living tissue. Bioprinters use bioink made from cells, biochemical nutrients and biological stands to support cells in an exact order. Bioinks have to operate under conditions that are suitable for living, growing tissue, so they cannot really be printed at temperatures that top body temperature.

Perhaps the simplest form of bioprinting is inkjet printing. Bioink is sprayed through tiny tubes so it has to be almost liquid and this limits the biological materials that can be printed. Most 3D printers operate by squeezing material through a pipe and bioprinters can use squeezing too, though care has to be taken not to damage cells through extreme force. Other techniques such as laser-assisted bioprinting or electrospinning (静电纺丝) are incredibly exact and can be used with thicker bioinks, but they are more tricky to use with living cells and not as rapid or able to create large quantities of tissue.

Once the bioprinter has done its work, the post-processing stage begins. Bioreactor systems are often employed to help the tissue grow up. They can be used to copy the forces and biochemical support that tissue needs to grow and differentiate correctly.

Bioprinting may be a relatively new field but the results so far are encouraging. Stem cells, which have the potential to turn into several types of cells, are being used to create bone. Organ printing can improve the health of society in general by wiping out the problem of diseases caused by organ failure, costly treatments and social care. That promise may be years away from realization but rapid prototyping (原型技术) enabled by bioprinting is pushing medical advances forward at pace.

【1】What does the underlined word “they” in paragraph 2 refer to?

A.Cells.

B.Bioinks.

C.Nutrients.

D.Biological stands.

【2】What should we pay attention to when using bioprinting?

A.The sort of human organs.

B.The thickness of bioinks.

C.The force of squeezing.

D.The order of cells.

【3】What can we infer from the 3rd and 4th paragraphs?

A.The process of bioprinting is practical.

B.Bioreactor systems tend not to damage cells.

C.Most 3D printers limit the biological materials.

D.Laser-assisted bioprinting can produce much tissue.

【4】Which is the suitable title for the passage?

A.Bioprinting Cures People of Diseases

B.Bioprinting is Similar to 3D Printing

C.Bioprinting Gets Care from Society

D.Bioprinting Has Much Potential

24、It seems that there is never enough time for many high school students. There are several steps you can take to organize your time better.

【1】 It makes it easy to plan any activities or meetings you may have in addition to homework. Be sure to set priorities (优先的事物). Do the most important tasks first.

Use spare time wisely. Do you have a study hall? Instead of wasting that time, read a book or do homework. 【2】 If a friend asks you to do something and you have homework to do, realize which is more important and see your friend later.

Decide on the time that is good for you to do certain things. If you are more of a morning person, try getting up an hour earlier and do schoolwork before school. 【3】 Don’t wait until just before a test to remember everything. If you spend a few minutes at the end of every day going over what you learned, it will mean less time studying when it is time for the exam.

Get a good night’s sleep. Studies have shown that getting enough rest helps your memory.

【4】 It is best to stay on a regular sleeping cycle as much as possible.

Tell your friends and family about your work timetable. Explain that you will be working at certain times and ask them not to disturb you. 【5】 You can call your friends later.

A.Set goals for yourself.

B.When you are tired, everything seems more difficult.

C.Make a to-do list every day.

D.And also, do not be afraid to say “no”.

E.You should finish your homework on time.

F.Review your notes every day.

G.Don’t take phone calls during the time you set aside or work.
