21、When you learn how to set intentions, you may tap into your inner drive and reach your dreams. Just remember that motivation is not a constant. Like the tide, it rises and it falls ,so be prepared for this.【1】
Finish a small task early on.This can be as simple as making your bed.【2】When this becomes a habit, add something that can help you access your inner self and be sure to do it early on in the day. This could be a nature walk, yoga stretches or spiritual practices.
Write a journal.【3】It is also beneficial to make sure you write down three things you feel gratitude for every day. This can help you re-frame and see your situation in a more positive light. Just keeping a gratitude journal can help you think positively,
Be optimistic.【4】A positive attitude can really make dreams come true.Practice gratitude in the journaling tip. If you slip up,tell yourself you will work on this or treat it as an opportunity to learn and to grow. If you feel like you are losing your drive, optimism will get you back on track.

22、 Each Wednesday evening, around 6:30 p. m., an unlikely group of artists gather in the activity room downstairs at the Anne Douglas Center for Women, located in downtown L. A. For an hour and a half, we sing, share tales from the weekend, praise each other’s work, and make things.
More specifically, we make wire sculptures, multimedia masks and self-portraits(自画像), and write letters to our future selves. We draw with closed eyes. Some projects come together with ease, others are not that easy.
However, regardless of the finished products, all of us value the time each week when there are no strict instructions, no right answers, no winners. And this is not to say the finished products aren’t surprising, genuine and wildly beautiful—which they most certainly are.
On Saturday, Nov. 12, the artists of the Anne Douglas Center will take over Bruce Lurie Gallery for a single night, selling their work to raise money for next year’s art programming. The evening, titled “The Art of Love”, is both a chance to support women and aspiring(有雄心的) artists in the community, and to see some quality artwork.
“Art therapy(疗法)is more than just making nice pictures,” art therapist Tally Tripp explained in an earlier interview. “In fact, art therapy is more often a process of making ugly or messy pictures that describe a feeling state, not a final product that is all neat and tied together. Art therapy is about that creative process where the customer, in the company of an art therapist is working and re-working problems via a range of variable art materials.”
Neither I nor Justin Waring-Crane, my partner, are art therapists. (She is an occupational therapist.) The projects we’re leading are not, therefore, art therapy. And yet, the healing(治疗的) benefits of creative expression are powerful. I can, at the very least, speak for myself; I leave our meetings feeling both accepted and inspired.

【3】What’s the author’s attitude towards their projects?
A.Cautious. B.Curious. C.Doubtful. D.Satisfied.
23、Eyes are said to be the window to the soul — but researchers at Google see them as indicators of a person’s health. A study suggests that Google’s computers can predict whether someone is at risk of a heart attack by analyzing a photograph of their retina (视网膜).
The research relied on a convolutional neural network, a type of deep-learning algorithm (算法) that is transforming how biologists analyse images. Google’s approach is part of a wave of new deep-learning applications that are making image processing easier and could even identify overlooked biological phenomena.
The approach took off in the tech sector around 2012, but scientists struggled to apply the networks to biology, in part because of cultural differences between fields. “Take a group of smart biologists and put them in a room of smart computer scientists and they will talk two different languages to each other, and have different mindsets,” says Daphne Koller, chief computing officer at Calico.
However, through years of study, some scientists have seen a shift that has never happened before in how well machine learning can accomplish biological tasks that have to do with imaging. Others are most excited by the idea that analysing images with convolutional neural networks could unknowingly reveal unnoticeable biological phenomena, encouraging biologists to ask questions they might not have considered before.
Such discoveries could help to advance disease research. If deep learning can reveal markers of cancer in an individual cell, it could help to bring about new assumptions about how cancer spreads.
Other machine-learning experts in biology have set their sights on new frontiers, now that convolutional neural networks are taking flight for image processing. “Imaging is important, but so is chemistry and molecular (分子) data,” says Alex Wolf, a computational biologist. Wolf hopes to improve neural networks so that they can analyse gene expression. “I think there will be a very big breakthrough in the next few years,” he says.
【1】What do we know about a convolutional neural network?
A.It can predict diseases.
B.It is a learning machine.
C.It can transform images.
D.It is an image processor.
【2】What can we infer from Daphne Koller’s words?
A.Barriers exist in certain fields.
B.Scientists have different research aims.
C.Characters prevent scientific cooperation.
D.Technical limitation is the biggest challenge.

A.many biological questions get answered
B.it drives biologists to explore the field widely
C.image analysis can go on without being noticed
D.many deep-learning applications have been improved

A.Neural networks are promising.
B.It is convenient to process images.
C.It is necessary to work on new frontiers.
D.Analyzing gene expression is imperfect.
24、Black Friday
The day after Thanksgiving is the start of the holiday shopping season. Thanksgiving is always on a Thursday, so the day after is a Friday. This day has come to be known as Black Friday. It has been the busiest shopping day of the year since 2005.
Most stores offer great deals on Black Friday. They open their doors in the small hours of the morning. They try to attract shoppers with big discounts. Some items like TVs are much cheaper than usual. Stores may even lose money on these items. They hope that shoppers will buy gifts for other people while they are in the store.
Black Friday is a great time to get good deals. The problem is that there are not enough low-priced items to go around. Each store may only have a few. These items are in high demand. People stand in long lines to get such great deals. They may line up hours before a store opens. They may be hoping to get a low price on a TV or laptop, but not everyone who wants one will get one. Some people leave disappointed.
The situation can be tense(紧张的). Some Black Friday events have been violent. Large, eager crowds have trampled(践踏) workers. Fights have broken out over toys or people cutting in line. People have shot one another over parking spots. But most Black Friday events are safe and fun. Still, if you plan on going, expect large crowds and a bit of pushing and shoving.
So where does the name "Black Friday" come from? It was first used in Philadelphia in the 1950s. The police called this day Black Friday because of the heavy traffic it drew. In the 1960s, spread across the country. It seems that it is here to stay.
Now people all over the country take part in the event known as Black Friday. It is even spreading to other parts of the world. Stores have held Black Friday events in the U.K., Australia, and Brazil since 2012. In Costa Rica Black Friday is known as "Viernes Negro." And in Mexico, stores offer an annual weekend of discounts. They call it "El Buen Fin," which means "the good weekend" in Spanish. I guess the language of savings is universal.
【1】Why do stores set prices so low on some items that they lose money?
A.They want people to enjoy the holidays.
B.They are generous at the beginning of the holiday season.
C.They hope people will buy other gifts while they are in the store.
D.They are trying to get rid of old items.
【2】Which best concludes the main idea of the third paragraph?
A.People stand in long lines on Black Friday.
B.Black Friday is a really disappointing time of the year
C.Black Friday is the best time of the year to get good deals.
D.Black Friday deals are limited and not everyone will get one.
【3】Which best describes the overall structure of the fifth paragraph?
A.Order of time. B.Problem and solution.
C.Order of importance. D.Compare and contrast.

26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Emma had two exams that day — physics and history. She really hated physics. It was her worst subject. Alice looked at her, and then looked away quickly. Emma thought Alice looked pleased, because she didn’t have a problem with physics, she didn’t have a problem with anything...Miss Perfect!
“I thought we were friends, but she hasn’t spoken to me for two weeks now. she promised to help me go over for the physics exam too, but then she’s forgotten all my calls and texts. And when I rang her house, her mum just told me she was busy.” Emma thought angrily. At that moment, Mr. Read asked all the students into the exam room.
Emma couldn’t answer some physics questions. Suddenly she saw Alice sitting two rows in front of her. Emma couldn’t believe it! Alice was holding her phone on her knee under the table and reading from it. Is that how Alice always got such good grades? She felt really angry at Alice, and thought about telling the teacher, but...“Stop writing,” said Mr. Read and started to collect the exam papers. Oh no, Emma hadn’t answered two of the questions. She was going to fail again!
Emma wanted to talk to Alice at lunchtime, but she couldn’t find her anywhere. Emma went to the library to prepare for the history exam, which was her favorite. But she couldn’t concentrate. “Unfair! Alice was getting good grades by cheating all that time.” She thought about telling a teacher, but everyone would hate her if she did that. Just then, Mr. Read walked past her table. “Mr. Read...”
Emma was sitting behind Alice again in the history exam that afternoon. Mr. Read wanted her to look at Alice and agreed if she saw that Alice was cheating in the exam.
