21、 Everyone knows it’s necessary to say “thank you” after receiving a gift or others’ help, but many people don’t know how to thank people in a proper way. It’s best to send a brief, personal note. 【1】
Make it personal. Use simple note cards rather than write your name on an amusing card bought at the gift shop. 【2】 The receiver will appreciate your taking the time to express thanks.
Get to the point right away. Thank-you cards should be short and sweet. Look at the following example. “Thank you ever so much for the charming vase. I’m sure it will bring my house to life.” 【3】
For some receivers, add some news about your life. 【4】 But if you receive a gift in the mail from people who see you infrequently and who would like to know more about what’s going on in your life, write briefly about what you’ve been up to recently.
【5】 Write and send it within one week after receiving the gift. Waiting too long to send a note tells the gift giver you really don’t appreciate his/her generosity.
A. Write the note as soon as possible.
B. This isn’t always suitable obviously.
C. Here are some tips on writing a thank-you note.
D Never type a “thank you”—write it by yourself.
E. Sending a thank-you note through the mail shows effort.
F. Thank-you notes aren’t difficult to write, and they don’t take much time.
G. As you can read, the writer thanked the gift giver immediately and frankly.
22、Rainbow-coloured rubbish is the colourful waste created by a Swedish city with a unique recycling system. Like many cities in Sweden, Eskilstuna has an impressive recycling record. It met the EU's 2020 target of recycling 50% of waste many years ago. But almost everyone who lives here follows a strict recycling policy at home. People are expected to sort their household waste into seven separate categories, including food, textiles, cartons and metal. But what really makes the system stand out is the bright colour code.
The reason for this becomes clear at the city's recycling plant. The bags arrive all jumbled up (混乱) because they're collected altogether, once a fortnight from outside people's houses. But thanks to those bright colours, scanners can select the bags and separate them efficiently. The foodwaste in green bags is processed on site into slurry (浆) to make biogas, which powers city's buses. One of the benefits of this method of recycling is that there is less cross-pollution, so more of the recycled waste can actually be used to make new things.
Like the rest of Sweden, Eskilstuna is committed to sending zero waste from its citizens to landfill (垃圾堆). Waste that cannot be recycled is incinerated at a local plant to generate electricity. This reduces reliance on fossil fuels, but does create greenhouse gases. As countries around the world try to improve their recycling rates, some may look to Eskilstuna as an example to follow—as long as they think they can persuade their citizens to get busy sorting at home.
【1】How do people in Eskilstuna follow a strict recycling policy?
A.They recycle waste at their homes.
B.They send waste to recycling plants.
C.They spray waste with colorful paints.

B.The waste can be stored in a fixed site.
C.The bags take on a colorful look.
D.The bags can be easily classified.
【3】What does the underlined word 'incinerated' in the last paragraph probably mean?
