21、 The other day I came across an Instagram post from my friend and colleague Danielle. It was a photo of a review of Danielle s recent photography exhibit. The review was positive, but also critical. That’s why Danielle posted it. She was proud of her work, no matter what her critics thought.
I was shocked by the post- -- it was one of the most honest things I've ever seen on social media! Usually when I scroll (滚读) through Facebook or Instagram, everything I see is perfect. Perfect vacations, perfect babies, perfect birthday cakes…
I' m guilty of it too. I only post photos of happy stuff. If someone saw my Instagram, they’d probably think, “Wow, this girl doesn’t have a care in the world.... and also she must really, really love ice cream.”
Danielle s post didn’t show a perfect world. And yet that didn’t make me think less of her. Quite the opposite, I respected her even more as an artist. That got me thinking. Maybe social media could be more meaningful if we showed off our mistakes or our struggles. And not a world where everything’s perfect, ice cream never melts and the lighting s always just right.
I’m going to try it out. Start with this blog post, which I’ll share on social media. I’ve included a photo here. It’s about a story I worked on for Guideposts magazine. See all those cross- outs and rewrites? That’s just the first of five pages of edit after edit from Guideposts editor- in-chief Edward Grinnan.
I remember the horrible day it happened like it was yesterday. I admit that I wept some tears over it. I considered giving up writing for a career. Eventually, though, I faced the music. I talked to Edward and asked him to explain the edits in detail so I could do better next time. The whole situation was rough. But, looking back now, it was a great learning experience.

22、 Yawning is something we all do—maybe because we’re bored carrying out tedious tasks or because we’re tired. Sometimes, just seeing other people yawn can set you off. But is this biological function really contagious, and why do we do it in the first place?
Many of us think we open our mouths when we yawn to take in more oxygen, but in fact it appears there is no clear biological reason. A new research suggests it might be because yawning cools the brain down and prevents it from overheating, much like the fan in your laptop. This might be why we’re more likely to feel drowsy and yawn in warm temperatures.
What is clear is that we yawn more when we’re exhausted and ready for a nap, and we can’t control when we do it—once we start, there’s no stopping us! But it’s also true that yawning is a very contagious behaviour. John Drury, a researcher from Sussex University, told the BBC that “dogs yawn when their owners yawn. Animals yawn to each other. It happens whether you want to or not.”
His research into this cognitive behaviour found that there is a connection with our social group and how close we are to the people in it. If we identify with the person who exhibits the behaviour, we are likely to copy it too.
Other researches by the University of Nottingham in 2017 found similar results. They asked volunteers to watch other people yawn. They found their ability to resist yawning when others around them yawned was limited. And the urge to yawn was increased when people were told they couldn’t. They also found, when using electrical stimulation(刺激), that they were able to increase people’s desire to yawn. These findings, they say, could be useful because it could help treat other conditions like Tourette’s, which involve the same area of the brain.
【1】According to the new research, why are we more likely to yawn in warm temperatures?
A.Because we need to breathe more oxygen.
B.Because we are more likely to feel tired.
C.Because we need to make the brain cooler.
D.Because we are more likely to feel bored.

C.They will yawn less than before.
D.They will yawn more lightly.
【4】Where is this text most likely from?
A.A novel. B.A diary. C.A magazine. D.A handbook.
23、There is an ancient Chinese story about a giant man named Kua Fu who chases the sun. He drains (喝干) the Yellow and Wei rivers during his race and finally dies of dehydration(脱水). His failure has reminded people of the unstoppable power of the sun for centuries. And yet, scientists throughout history have tried to better understand the most important star in our sky. On Aug 12, 2018, NASA launched the Parker Solar Probe(探测器), marking the start of its trip to the sun.
The probe itself is almost as big as a car and needed the help of a powerful rocket to escape Earth's orbit, change direction and reach the sun. In order to reach the sun, the probe must complete seven flight of Venus, using the power of the planet's gravity to change its path, sending it toward the sun. But that's not the only difficult part of the journey. As the probe approaches the sun's corona(日冕), it will have to bear temperatures reaching 1,400 C, as well as deal with serious radiation. So how will the probe survive?
According to NASA, a special shield (保护罩) has been used, which is a special 11.5 cm-thick carbon-composite shield that will be positioned between the probe and the sun's corona. Its advanced technology like this will make the probe's trip to the sun much smoother. If everything goes as planned, the probe will reach a speed of 692,018 kilometers per hour as it orbits the sun, setting a new record for the fastest man-made object in history, NBC noted. It will fly close to the sun 24 times between 2018 and 2025, NBC added.
The "mission to touch the sun" will "not only make history by answering questions that have puzzled scientists for decades, but it may also lead to the discovery of new phenomena that are completely unknown to us now," Raouafi told Discovery Magazine. "This mission has the potential to push solar research into a new direction," he added.
【1】What does "it" underlined in paragraph 2 refer to?
A.A powerful rocket.
B.The probe.
C.Venus.
D.The planet's gravity.
【2】What do we know about the Parker Solar Probe?

B.It has an 11.5-inch-thick shield.

D.It’s twice the size of a car.
【3】The probe will meet the challenges except ________.
A.the route to the sun
B.the heat near the sun
C.the distance to the sun
D.the radiation from the sun
