21、As athletes get stronger and faster, the pace of play continues to increase. The burden of making sure games are played according to the rules and that the officiating (裁判) is accurate is now being taken out of human hands and falling more and more into the lap of technology. It’s called the video replay.
The National Football League is expanding its replay system this upcoming season to include pass interference (传球干扰). Major League Baseball now relies on it for safe-or-out and home run calls. If you’ve been watching the FIFA World Cup, you may have noticed that the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) played a key role in almost every game. And in the Kentucky Derby, a horse was disqualified for knocking another horse. No one knew why until a video replay confirmed the call and controversy was avoided.
However, many purists—those who want people to follow rules carefully and do things in the traditional way—especially in soccer, argue it’s not the way the game was invented, and that the video replay is tainting the sport. But don’t you want to see the proper application of the rules throughout the games? I know I do. Yes, it can slow the game down, but I feel it is worth it. If technological advancements allow fans watching from home to spot mistakes instantly, those same views need to be available to the officiating crews. Another example occurred in the most recent National Football Conference (NFC) Championship Game between the Los Angeles Rams and the New Orleans Saints. When obvious pass interference was committed by the Los Angeles Rams player Nickell Robey-Coleman, with just 109 seconds to play, no flag was raised on the field. It weakened the New Orleans Saints spirits. The Los Angeles Rams won a 26-23 overtime victory. The no-call deeply angered the public. The video replay showed the referees had just missed one of the most apparent pass interference calls.
There are no easy answers regarding replay technology and whether it is a curse (魔咒). But for me, keeping the officiating honest and on task is the right step in limiting controversy.

Business is the organized approach to providing customers with the goods and services they want. The word business also refers to an organization that provides these goods and services. Most businesses seek to make a profit(利润)— that is, they aim to achieve income that is more than the costs of operating the business.【1】Commonly called nonprofits, these organizations are primarily nongovernmental service providers.【2】.Business management is a term used to describe the techniques of planning, direction, and control of the operations of a business.【3】One is the establishment(制定) of broad basic policies with respect to production; sales; the purchase of equipment, materials and supplies; and accounting.【4】The third relates to the establishment of standards of work in all departments. 23、Migraine is a disease that has a number of symptoms (症状), including head pain that can stick around from four hours to several days. While migraines can happen partly because of genetic problems, attacks may happen by chance, set off by a cause in the environment.
One common cause is food, and some common dietary causes include alcohol, salt, sugar, chocolate, and caffeine. But there are many others, and scientists continue to identify more. Last year, for instance, a Brazilian study found that watermelons brought on a headache within minutes in about 30 percent of the participants.
Some new researches are looking at which foods and what kinds of diets can prevent or lessen migraines. A new study published last year by a team of researchers found that a diet higher in fish oils rather than vegetable oils helped people ease their headaches. In the study, those on a diet lower in vegetable oil and higher in fatty fish had a 30 to 40 percent reduction in total headache hours per day, serious headache hours per day, and overall headache days per month compared to the control group.
Tanya Kamka had suffered weekly migraines for most of her life. Then, in her 50s, she joined the NIH diet experiment and increased her intake of fish. After only a few months, “I haven’t had a migraine, not even a mild one, in over two years. ” she says.
For others, the solution comes from plants, not fish. A 60-year-old man joined a study on the food-migraine link and turned to a diet, which includes a lot of dark, leafy greens. After two months he was experiencing only one migraine a month instead of the 18 to 24 a month he’d suffered before.
Clearly, people with migraines react to food in very different ways. What works for one person may not work for another.
【1】What can be learned from paragraph 1?
A.Environment can cause migraine.
B.The main cause of migraine is genes.
C.Heavy headache can lead to migraine.
D.Migraine lasts for at least three hours.
【2】What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.The length of migraine.
B.Foods that lead to migraine.
C.The most common cause of migraine.
D.A Brazilian study about the cause of migraine.
【3】What did the new study last year find?
A.Taking more fish oils can help lessen migraines.
B.People taking more vegetables can reduce migraines.
C.The control group may have 30%-40% less migraines.
D.More fish oils and less vegetables can cure migraines.
【4】Why does the author mention Tanya and the 60-year-old man?
A.To tell that both fish and plants have good effects on migraines.
B.To show the influences of food on migraines vary from person to person.
C.To suggest that fish oils work better than plant oils on reducing migraines.
D.To prove whether different foods can help with migraines remains to be studied.
24、 It's rare for pupils to have left the city or even to have gone anywhere in particular within the city. Whenever I ask some of my French high school pupils why they don't go outside, the answer always seems to be one of the followings: sleeping, seeing my friends or playing video games. Of course, these are simply excuses. In their mind, going outside to have fun means costing a large amount of money.
Money isn't easy to get when you're young. While Christmas and birthdays can leave you much pocket money, it is a temptation to use it up as soon as you've got it rather than putting it aside for a rainy day. Actually, you'd better think twice about how to use it.
We can have fun without money as well. At weekends and during holidays when I still lived in Scotland, I loved nothing more than being out and staying with my friends and family. But I took full advantage of the swimming dance and language clubs that were on offer in my school and university. In France, most school pupils have Wednesday afternoons free. Some of them use that time to go to the cinema or do some shopping in the supermarket. However, most of them will have entertainment that doesn't have to cost them money.
A couple of weeks ago, I started a weekly English club at my school. I wanted to give pupils the chance to practice and improve their conversational language skills. I was a little worried that the young pupils wouldn't choose my English club, especially when the traditional Wednesday afternoon sports clubs and training sessions were available. However, I was pleasantly surprised that many pupils did turn up later.
Yes, we all need a change of scenery and a break from our usual routine from time to time, but entertainment can be simple, and it doesn't always come with a price tag(标签)!
【1】Why do some pupils rarely leave their city in the author's view?
A.They must work hard at subjects.
B.They have no time to enjoy their life.
C.They prefer to make some friends.
D.They feel it impossible to go outside without much money.
【2】In France, what do the majority of pupils usually do on Wednesday afternoons?
A.Go swimming and dancing.
B.Go to the cinema with their friends.
C.Have entertainment without costing money.
D.Getting something for free in the supermarket.
【3】What is the best title for the passage?
A.Teaching is important B.Entertainment is necessary
C.Money isn't everything D.Have fun without money
