21、All living things in the ocean are endangered by humans polluting the water. 【1】 One way is the dumping( 倾倒) of certain waste materials, such as garbage and used water, into the ocean. The harmful bacteria that feed on the garbage use up much of the oxygen in the surrounding water, so other creatures in the area often don’t get enough.
Other substances( 物 质 ), such as radioactive waste material, can also cause pollution. 【2】 But after years of being exposed to the ocean water, the containers may begin to leak(漏).
【3】 Oil is spilled into the ocean when oil ships sink or when oil wells in the ocean cannot be capped. The oil covers the gills( 腮 ) of fish and prevents them from breathing. Diving birds get the oil on their wings and are unable to fly. When they clean themselves, they are often poisoned by the oil.
Rivers also can contribute to the pollution of oceans. 【4】 Fertilizers used on the farmlands may be carried to the ocean, where they cause a great increase in the amount of certain plants. Too much of some plants can actually be poisonous to fish.
Worse yet are the pesticides(杀虫剂) carried to the ocean. these chemicals slowly build up in fish and other small animals. 【5】 The buildup of these chemicals in the animals can make them ill or cause their babies to be born dead or sick.
A.Fish and turtles suffer the most
B.Pollution occurs in several ways.
C.Oil is another major source of concern
D.Many rivers receive the runoff water from farmlands
E.Farmers use these artificial fertilizers to increase crop harvest.
F.These materials are often placed in the water in safely sealed containers.
G.These animals then pass the pesticides on to the larger animals that feed on them.
22、 We all know that regular exercise is very important for both a healthy mind and body. Research has shown that just five minutes of exercise in a "green space" can help people to keep mentally healthy.
Let's take a look at some ways to get close to nature and make them a part of your regular exercise routine(常规).
Get on your bike. Cycling is a cheap, easy and fun way to get some good exercise in the outdoors. Try leaving your car at home and cycling to work one day, if that's possible. Check out the local cycle paths before you go, and plan a safe route. Make sure you take some healthy snacks with you to keep your energy levels up.
Try some outdoor yoga(瑜伽). Practicing yoga can be great for reducing anxiety and aiding relaxation. Yoga is great for stretching(伸展)tight muscles and increasing flexibility as well as improving mobility(活动性), control and breathing. Why not finish your practice with some quiet meditation(冥想) to further calm the mind?
Go running. Instead of spending hours on the treadmill(跑步机), grab a friend and go off for a jog (慢跑)around your local park, or some nature paths. If you are used to running on a treadmill, you may find it harder at first, so, make sure you have some good, supportive running shoes.
【1】What should you do if you want to cycle in the outdoors?
A.Checking the bikes. B.Making good preparations.
C.Learning survival skills. D.Having a healthy body.
【2】Which of the following is not the advantage of trying some outdoor yoga according to the passage?

【3】What problem do some people have if they want to run on a treadmill?
A.It leads them to fall behind their friends.
B.It needs some patience to continue.

D.It makes them lose interest in running.
【4】What does the passage mainly tell us?
A.The process of outdoor sports. B.The ways of regular exercise.

23、 Many primary school students in Jiangsu Province suffered from such symptoms as nosebleeds, dizziness and rashes after attending schools that recently installed plastic running tracks on their playgrounds. Parents of primary school students in several cities reported similar symptoms in their children after school began in September, 2015.
The provincial educational department said on Wednesday that schools with these plastic tracks must have professionals carry out tests. It sent a team of experts to look into the whole work of the building of the tracks. Any illegal behavior will be punished without mercy.
Chen Yun, a teacher in Wuxi, said no organization could provide the school with an official test report for its track. “The local disease control center said they can examine and analyze the air in an enclosed space, such as classrooms and washrooms. But they cannot test in open spaces,” Chen said. Local environmental protection centers have also refused to test the air around the plastic running tracks.
According to the Jiangsu Environmental Protection Bureau, China has no standards for the running track industry, which will make the air measurements useless as there are no data in determining whether the air is polluted. Besides, materials used to build the tracks are not tested when they are produced at factories because of, also, NO industry standards! So what we have to do now is, of course, that these measures should be made in no time.
Ye Ping, director of Taizhou Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Institute, said harmful things in plastic running tracks may lead to diseases. “The plastic tracks in China are mainly made up of polyurethane, a kind of nontoxic material,” said Ye. “However, suppliers may add toxic adhesives. They give a bad smell and may cause dizziness and rashes. Some suppliers may also add a kind of material that helps the plastic to solidify, but the lead contained in it will raise lead levels above normal in children’s blood after longtime exposure.”
Ye added that the country has not put forward rules about the examination of volatile organic compounds given off by tracks.
The Jiangsu educational department has suggested that middle schools in Nanjing grow natural grass on their playgrounds.
【1】According to Chen Yun, ______.
A.parents of primary school students firstly reported problems about their children.
B.no official reports about the tracks could be got at the moment.
C.local environmental protection centers worked hard to find out the causes.
D.there are no standards for the running track industry at present.
【2】Who believes it is the harmful things in the tracks that may cause the problems?
A.Ye Ping B.experts C.Chen Yun D.parents
【3】Which of the following statements can be called a Fact instead of an Opinion?
A.Without standards for the running track industry, the air measurements might be useless.
B.The schools with these plastic tracks must have professionals carry out tests.
C.Many primary school students suffered from nosebleeds after attending schools.
D.Middle schools in Nanjing should grow natural grass on their playgrounds.
【4】Based on the analysis, who deserves to be punished for the sick students?
A.The primary schools B.Some suppliers
C.The educational department D.The disease control center
【5】What work does the writer think should be done at once according to the passage?
A.Experts should be sent to test the materials of the tracks.
B.Students should be examined to find the reasons for their illnesses.
C.The plastic running tracks should be removed to grow natural grass instead.
D.The measures for the running track industry should be worked out.
24、Online Meetings May Affect Creativity, Study Finds
Many companies have moved online because of COVID-19, with work meetings around the world taking place virtually instead of in the office. But a recent study has found that online meetings may affect creative thinking. The study, published in Nature, included 602 people who were divided into random pairs. Each pair was given five minutes to think of creative uses for an item such as a Frisbee, and then one minute to choose the most creative idea.
Some pairs were asked to work together on a video call, while others worked in person. The results showed that the in-person pairs had more ideas than the virtual pairs. However, virtual groups were better at choosing the best idea. The researchers also used eye-tracking technology to see whether focusing on a screen can affect a person’s creativity.
Teams working together virtually spent more time looking directly at each other and remembered less of their surroundings when asked later. The in-person pairs spent more time looking around the room, but also had more ideas.
The researchers did the same study with 1,490 engineers. The pairs were asked to think of new product ideas and choose one as an idea for their company. The results were similar to the first study, with the engineers who met in person thinking of more product ideas, and the virtual pairs making slightly better decisions about which idea to choose.
Study author Melanie Brucks said that while she thinks the future of work is hybrid, the results suggest that businesses should think carefully about which tasks can be done online, and which—like thinking of new ideas—should be done in person.
【1】How did the experts get the research results?
A.By carrying out questionnaires.
B.By doing experiments in the lab.
C.By studying and comparing different groups of participants.
D.By watching some different virtual videos on the Internet.
【2】Totally there are________people as researched objects taking part in this research.
