21、How to Design a Logo
A great logo is more than images and words, and a good logo tells a story about your company-who you are, what you do and what you stand for.【1】And it is why it’s important that you take the time to do it right. Fortunately, you don’t have to do it alone. The steps below will help you design a good logo.
Determine the primary function of your logo.
Being clear on why you need a logo can guide your design.Having a strong logo can help consumers recognize your brand more readily. Consumers shop with their eyes and logos can be easier to remember than names, products and services【2】
【3】
It’s important to be clear on who your potential customers are and design the look of your logo to appeal to those who will be using your services.A logo for a flower shop could include a unusual character style and a bright color.
Decide whether to include your company’s name into the logo.
Of course, you want to build name recognition for your business, but making the name part of your logo design may not always be a good idea.Include the name if it is reasonably distinctive but not yet a household word.Do not include the name if it is too long, and doesn’t translate well globally or lacks personality.
Be inspired by but don’t copy successful logos.
While it might be easy to create something that looks like your favorite company’s logo,it will leave an impression on consumers that you’re lazy and uninspired. Look at logos of other companies.【4】These examples give you ideas of what to do and what to avoid.
Keep it simple.
While it may be easy to try to give a lot of messages with your design, trying to do too much will ruin your logo.【5】If there are too many messages in your logo, it will be difficult for the customer to process.
A.Think about your target market.
B.That’s a lot to ask of one piece of art.
C.Ask yourself what you like and don’t like about them.
D.Avoid too many colors, different characters and images.
E.A good logo that conveys your honesty can help put customers at ease.
F.Over time, a customer comes to associate your logo with your company.
G.Show your logo to those connected to you and listen to what they have to say.
22、How to Remove Stain(污点)
Stains happen to everyone. Cooking can splash oil, adventures sometimes result in blood stains, and you may spill coffee when drinking. Here are some tips helping you learn how to get stains out.
Coffee stains
If you spill coffee, don't worry. Blot(吸干液体)up as much of the coffee as you can right away. Then mix together warm water, dish soap, and white vinegar, and use a clean white cloth to blot the stain with the solution.
Blood stains
You can get unexpected blood stains from skinned knees, bloody noses etc. The key is doing it as soon as possible-dried blood can leave a permanent mark. One of the best blood removers is white vinegar. Soak the stain for five to ten minutes in a mixture of one cup vinegar and two cups warm water, then wipe the blood away.
Paint stains
Once water-based paint is dry, it won't come off. If you get to it while it's still wet, simply wash the paint out under warm water, then wash as usual. For oil-based paints, wipe the spot with paint thinner, then wash; treat with a stain remover, and launder.
Ink stains
Whether your child "accidentally" wrote on your sleeve or a pen leaked in a pocket, we've got effective options for getting it out. Apply plain white toothpaste to the pen mark, then rub to lift the stain away.
【1】Which way can be used first to help lift coffee stains away?
A.By soaking the stain in water.
B.By rubbing the stain with effort.
C.By absorbing the stain when it's wet.

【2】What is necessary if you remove blood stain completely?
A.Soak it when it's dry.
B.Deal with it as soon as possible.
C.Wash it with warm water.

【3】Which of the following can be removed without warm water?
A.Paint.
B.Blood.
C.Coffee.

23、Bob Shahmardi was 4 years old when he developed a severe disease. Success rates with the disease were relatively low at that time, but his family was lucky to live in a community that was helpful when they didn’t have many resources and it was at that time that Make-A-Wish stepped in. Through that organization, the Shahmardi family got to enjoy a trip to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. The then 4-year-old hugged a character actor as part of a wish granted to him and his family by the organization. “It wasn’t just going on a trip. It was more about how we got through that hard time. It was fun for me, but it was lifeline for my parents. ” said Bob.
30 years later, Bob and his wife, Jill Welch, decided to turn their wedding into a fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Their wedding guests financed two wishes for local children, more being planned. Many donated generously to the cause, spending more, perhaps, than they might have if it was just to buy the couple a wedding gift like fine china or a kitchen appliance. Bob said their wedding donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation isn’t going to be “one and done”. The two plan on continuing to contribute going forward.
Gloria Crockett, president and chief executive officer of the organization, said she felt it amazing to have someone who benefited come back to pay it forward to other kids looking for wishes.
Contrary to popular belief, Gloria stressed that wishes aren’t given to critically ill children as a “last wish”, but are given as a part of the treatment process. The organization granted at least 165 wishes last year. This year Gloria hopes to grant somewhere between 199 and 299 wishes, depending on funding.
【1】Which of the following helped Bob realize his wish?
A.The hospital.
B.Make-A-Wish.
C.The community.
D.Disney World.
【2】What made Bob’s wedding special?
A.Collecting money for local kids.
B.Receiving expensive gifts.
C.The attendance of officials.
D.The number of the guests.
【3】What does the underlined part “one and done” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.Once-only.
B.Non-stop.
C.Sizable.
D.Personal.
【4】What did Gloria think of the wish given to Bob?
A.It was a fun experience.
B.It was a lifeline.
C.It was a certain treatment.
D.It was a last wish.
24、Microplastics, the kind of current working definition, is plastic less than five millimeters. So people commonly equate that to something like a grain of rice or a sesame (芝麻籽) seed and down in terms of size class. I will say that most of the microplastics that people are interacting with are quite a bit smaller than the sesame seed size, which I think always kind of shocks people when we start talking about the numbers because they kind of can’t see a lot of these things, at least with the naked eyes.
Kieran Cox is a PhD candidate in marine biology at the University of Victoria and one of the authors of the study, which is in the journal Environmental Science & Technology. For their study, Cox and his team pulled together past scientific literature that calculated the number of microplastics in things we commonly consume, such as in tap and bottled water, sugars, seafood—even in the air that we breathe. This analysis helped them figure out the baseline amount of microplastics that people are consuming every year. They couldn’t include common foods like beef, vegetables and dairy in their analysis because data on them doesn’t exist yet. In fact, their study could account for only 15 percent of people’s caloric intake. Even missing the majority of what people swallow, the research revealed that—at the very least—humans appear to consume somewhere between 74 000 and 121 000 microplastic particles every year. That number goes up for people drinking bottled water rather than tap water.
Now, is all the plastic safe to take in? Scientists simply don’t know yet. “This is kind of the first estimate of dose (剂量), you could say, right? So if you’re thinking in terms of toxicology (毒理学) and ecotoxicology, dose is a very important factor to think about, and so this kind of presents the first estimate, but it is very much an underestimate because of what we don’t know.”
【1】What is microplastics?
A.Particles like a grain of rice.
B.Plastic particles smaller than 5 mm.
C.Something smaller than a sesame seed.
D.Something to be seen with naked eyes.
【2】What is the second paragraph mainly about?
A.The study of the amount of microplastics people consuming.
B.Calculation of the amount of microplastics in food.
C.Analysis of past scientific literature.
D.The study of marine biology.
【3】Which aspect should be focused on in further study?
A.Making plastics safe.
B.The number of bottled water.
C.Safe dose of microplastics.
D.The things people swallow.
【4】What do we know about the study?
A.It has been published in the journal.
B.Kieran Cox is the director of the study.
C.The first estimate is accurate.
D.It is related to life security.
