21、The proverb “Work is worship (热爱,崇拜)” emphasizes the importance of work in our life. It states that doing work must be the real worship of the life of every human being.
Human beings are considered the most important entity (独立存在体) in this universe because we are blessed with brains and intelligence. The brain provides the power to think and understand about different things in the world. We all have some purpose in our lives and doing work helps in achieving the purpose of our lives.
It is very important for all the students to understand the importance of work. This stage is very important in every person’s life. The habit that is developed at this age is continued till death. If the students learn to work in this stage they continue the same in future too. For the students, real worship is not the worshiping of god but doing their studies in a sincere way. They need to do regular studies with proper concentration every day.
The students who are attentive and do their work sincerely are rewarded with good marks while the lazy students who avoid doing their work suffer later in their lives. This is because there is no substitute (代替) for hard work. Hard working students grow up to became good citizens of society and the nation in future. Work teaches the students to be disciplined in their life.
Every day we hear of new inventions and achievements made by the people in the world. It could not be possible if the people would not have done their work sincerely. Our history is shining bright because of the great deeds of some great personalities. This is also because of the people who considered their work as worship and performed it honestly. Such people never ran away from doing work. They would not be able to make their names shine in history without hard work. Thus, it can be stated that every success has a big struggle and dedication behind it. People who worship their work can achieve great heights in their life.

24、The world’s largest study about sleep was launched in June 2017 and within days more than 40,000 people from around the world participated in the online scientific investigation, which includes a questionnaire and a series of cognitive (认知的) performance activities.
“We really wanted to figure out the sleeping habits of people around the world. Obviously, there have been many smaller sleep studies of people in labs but we wanted to find out what sleep is like in the real world,” says Adrian Owen. “People who logged in gave us a lot of information about themselves. They told us things like which medicine they were on, how old they were, where they were and what kind of education they’d received because these are all factors that might have contributed to some of the results.”
About half of all participants reported typically sleeping less than 6.3 hours per night, about an hour less than the study’s recommended amount. One shocking fact was that most participants who slept four hours or less performed as if they were almost nine years older.
Another surprising discovery was that sleep affected all adults equally. The amount of sleep associated with highly functional cognitive behavior was the same for everyone, regardless of age. Also, the harm associated with too little, or too much, sleep did not depend on the age of the participants.
“We found that the best amount of sleep to keep your brain performing its best is 7 to 8 hours every night. We also found that people who slept more than that amount were equally harmed as those who slept too little.” says Conor Wild, Owen Lab Research Associate and the study’s lead author.
【1】Where did the study take place?
A.In a hospital.
B.In a university.
C.In a lab.
D.On the Internet.
【2】What may affect the result of the study according to Owen?
A.Professions.
B.Education.
C.Hobbies.
D.Diet.
【3】Which of the following is right according to Wild?
A.Sleeping too much is as bad as sleeping too little.
B.Sleeping too little can make people look older.
C.Different people need different sleeping hours.
D.People must sleep for eight or nine hours every day.
【4】What can we learn from the passage?
A.Most people have sleeping problems in the world.
B.Owen and Wild were the first experts to study sleep.
C.Lack of enough sleep is a common problem.
D.People attach great importance to having enough sleep.

26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My eyes met hers and we both grinned before leaping into the water. Now, I was an excellent swimmer. Yet, a few months ago, things were different. And I had to thank her for helping me.
I was always afraid of water. This fear could not be explained, but I knew that the moment I stepped near any body of water, my legs would turn to jelly. I would imagine myself drowning in the water. That was why I had never gone into a swimming pool until swimming became a school requirement. My school wanted all pupils to pass a swimming test, and if they could not, then they would have to attend weekly swimming lessons in school, which sent fright down my spine (脊柱). Thus, my parents signed me up for swimming lessons at the pool near my house. I had to attend those weekly lessons, and each one was great torture (折磨) for me. I was naturally awkward, and my fear of water did not help at all. Every lesson, I would be spending my time thrashing (拍打) about in the water while my classmates would be swimming countless laps effortlessly. How was I going to pass the test at this rate?I was discouraged. In my swimming class, there was an exceptionally athletic girl. Her name was Kathy. She was the best swimmer in our class and always looked at me with disdain (鄙视). Once, after a particularly long and hard swimming lesson, I spotted Kathy swimming gracefully in the pool. Mustering my courage, I asked meekly (温顺地),“Kathy, can you teach me swimming?” She stared at me coldly, and I thought she was going to refuse my request. To my surprise, she nodded after a few moments of silence.
1.续写词数为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

From then on, Kathy stayed back for about an hour after every swimming lesson for me.
