21、How many men do housework? Recently a European Commission tried to find out people’s ideas and reactions to the women’s movement. As part of their survey, they asked many men and women the question, “Who does the housework?” The men answered very differently from the women!
The housework they asked people about were: preparing meals, washing dishes, cleaning the house and babysitting. 48% of British husbands said they did these things. 37% of Danish men helped in the house. But only 15% of Italian men said they did the housework, many of them said they never helped at all!
But there was an interesting point of view from the wives. According to British wives, only 38% of their husbands helped in the house. And Italian wives said that their husbands hardly ever helped. The Italian and British men did not tell the truth! The Commission found that Danish men were the most trustful husbands; their answers were the same as their wives’ answers.
Do the men you know help in the house? Do you think the survey gives a true picture in your experience? Write and tell us what you think.
【1】The survey was carried out in ______.
A. Britain B. Europe C. Denmark D. Italy
【2】The subject for the survey is ______.

B. husbands did half of the housework all the time
C. there were more wives who did the housework than husbands.
D. wives did all the housework at home
【4】More ______ husbands help in the house than ______ husbands.
A. British; Danish B. Italian; Danish

22、Some people love setting goals each Jan.1. 【1】.However, there is indeed a logic to joining the New Year’s resolution trend. If you are to increase the chances of sticking to your resolution, behavioral scientists have discovered techniques that may help.
Make it measurable
An unclear, poorly-defined target, like “get fitter”, is a reason for a failed resolution. To increase your chances of success, ask yourself what you consider “fitter”, and how you can make it. A better solution might be “run 5 km a day”. 【2】. Specific goals allow you to keep track of progress, which in turn can get you motivated.
Make it fun
If you get delight form your workouts or study sessions, research has found that you will carry on longer. 【3】.For instance, treating yourself with a coke during the sessions so there is an attraction to get you to the library.
【4】
Ensuring you will face some punishment if you don’t achieve your New Year’s resolution can work wonders. An effective way to do this is by telling some people about your goal so you will feel ashamed if they check back later and find out that you haven’t followed through.
Get help from your peers.
Spending time around high achievers can help promote your own performance. If you have made a resolution to run a marathon, it would be wise for you to start hanging around friends who have make it to the finish line and can show you how it is done. 【5】, because you are bound to learn their patterns of behavior.
A.Make a resolution list
B.Figure out a punishment
C.You are extra motivated to set your goals
D.You will pick up a bit just by spending time together
E.You could even add deadlines for reaching certain important stages
F.Others argue it is a waste of time since most resolutions fail by mid-March
G.One way to make going for a goal more fun is to combine it with a pleasure
23、 At a time when industries are under greater pressure to reduce costs and increase efficiencies, more production facilities are turning to digital sensing technology to provide the real-time insights they need for improved performance. What if one digital sensor could measure multiple signals?
Yokogawa’s Dpharp(差压传送器) digital technology has the unique ability to measure two pressure parameters, delivering reliable and accurate measurement of plant operations. The unique aspect of this digital technology is that it measures two parameters in one sensor module, providing additional insight into a plant's operations. It is the only sensor in the world that does this.
DPharp transmitters use silicon resonant sensor technology to measure both differential and still pressure. The sensor consists of two H-shaped crystal silicon resonators that shake at a certain frequency and, when pressure is applied, the frequency of one resonator increases while the other decreases. By monitoring these frequencies digitally, both differential and still pressure can be measured at the same time. The frequency output is directly read by the central processing unit of the transmitter.
DPharp can be used in any processing plant across any industry—from oil and gas to food and drinks. DPharp’s unique digital sensing technology allows engineering firms and plant engineers to create designs that will equate to an average reduction of 40 percent. Where they would typically use five measuring devices, they are using three by using the multi-sensing technology. That is a significant cost reduction in the number of devices installed and the added benefit is that, as there are less devices, the engineering and design is less complex, which means less materials and less equipment to maintain. Furthermore, there are fewer transmitter spares required, which reduces costs. Tony Farah, Product Manager, said that more organisations are seeing the significant benefits of smart devices like DPharp.
【1】What is special about DPharp digital technology?
A.It provides the real-time insights.
B.It brings significant changes in engineering.
C.It measures two parameters in one sensor.
D.It provides accurate measurement.
【2】What is the frequency output read by?
A.Two H-shaped crystal silicon resonators.
B.The central processing unit of the transmitter.
C.Monitoring devices.
D.The operator of the plant.
【3】What is the plants’ attitude to DPharp?
A.Cautious.
B.Skeptical.
C.Favorable.
D.Disapproving.
【4】What is the text mainly about?
A.How DPharp is bringing value across production plants.
B.How sensor works in a different way.
C.Why DPharp is efficient and reliable.
D.Where DPharp can be used.

As college sports continue to be hugely popular and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) brings in large amounts of money, people have restarted the discussion on whether college athletes should get paid.
Supporters of the idea believe that, because college athletes are bringing in audiences, they should receive some sort of compensation (补偿). In fact, the NCAA brings in about $1 billion income a year, but college athletes don’t receive any of that money in the form of a paycheck. Additionally, people who believe college athletes should be paid state that paying college athletes will actually encourage them to remain in college longer and not turn professionals as quickly, either by giving them a way to begin earning money in college or requiring them to sign a contract (合同) saying they’ll stay at the university for a certain number of years while making an agreed-upon salary.
People who argue against the idea of paying college athletes believe the practice could be disastrous for college sports. Paying athletes would turn college sports into a bidding (竞拍)war, where only the richest schools could afford top athletes, and most schools would be shut out from developing a talented team. It could also harm the friendship within many college teams if players become unhappy that certain teammates are making more money than they are.
Those against paying college athletes also believe that the athletes are receiving enough benefits already. The top athletes receive scholarships that are worth tens of thousands per year. They receive free food and textbooks, get travel bonuses and free equipment, and can use their time in college as a way to attract the attention of professional coaches. No other college students receive anywhere near as much from their schools.
While both sides have good points, it’s clear that the negatives of paying college athletes far outweigh the positives. College athletes have been compensated enough. Adding a salary would result in a college athletic system where only a few athletes are paid by some schools who enter bidding wars to sign them up, while most student athletics and college athletic programs suffer or even shut down for lack of money. Continuing to offer the present benefits to student athletes makes it possible for as many people to benefit from and enjoy college sports as possible.
【1】It can be learned from Paragraph 2 that college athletes ________.
A.have earned what they are promised
B.tend to serve college longer when well-paid
C.should make an agreed-upon salary by signing contracts
D.prefer to stay at university rather than turn professionals
【2】People against paying college athletes believe ________.
A.money should be spent on bonuses
B.schools would be unable to afford it
C.it could be harmful to college sports
D.students would value payments over achievements
【3】What is the author’s attitude towards paying college athletes?
A.Uncertain.
B.Satisfied.
C.Positive.
D.Unsupportive.
