Tuesday
When the kids get home from school, don’t let them go straight to the TV and get settled in. Encourage them to get moving and get off the couch(沙发) by giving them a pedometer(计步器). Pedometers are the most fun when parents also use one because that turns stepping, walking and running into a game to see who can get the most steps.
Thursday
The kids have done a great job so far this week, but now they long for a little more TV time. Instead of turning on cartoons, let them watch fitness movies made just for kids. These movies encourage watchers to get up and dance along to kid-friendly music.
Saturday
Get the whole family out of the house together and over to a park. Bring lots of sports equipment, pack a healthy picnic and have a family competitive sports day. Kids and adults get into groups and play against each other in tennis, basketball or soccer. After everyone has played hard for a couple of hours, stop for a picnic and then if your family isn’t too tired, go back and play some more.
Sunday
Every child loves to play video games and there is no better time to allow kids to play them than on Sunday when no homework is due. But don’t let them play a game that forces them to sit down for hours. Dance games with a floor mat(垫子) to help kids follow the dance moves are popular to kids.

22、 As a young African-American male growing up in the housing projects of the South Bronx, Schone Malliet never ever dreamed of skiing---a sport typically associated with wealthy people. Then in his 20s, he found himself at the top of a ski slope in Park City, Utah, having been “dragged there” by his mate of the Marine Corps(海军陆战队), in which Malliet was doing a seven-year stint(兵役) that he ultimately parlayed(成功地获得) into a college education and also an MBA. Despite his strong athleticism, Malliet experienced what many adults who weren’t exposed to skiing as children: awkwardness, discouragement, embarrassment, and a feeling of not quite belonging.
Nevertheless, after Malliet left the Corps for a successful career in business and finance, he gave skiing another shot, and this time, he took hold along with a powerful idea: what if people of color, and especially children of color, had no reason to feel out of place on a ski mountain? Nice idea, but who was going to believe it right? And who was going to pay for all those kids to get to the mountains, let alone have access to the necessary gear, clothing, and equipment? And who was going to pay for the lessons, because anyone who had skied even once knows that you can’t do it without lessons?
Well, fast-forward to 2010, when Malliet a successful businessman, was finally ready to do something to make it happen. To that end, he co-founded the National Winter Sports Education Foundation whose mission is to encourage teens, especially teens of color, to get over their fear for ski and go beyond their limitations. Malliet also founded the National Winter-Activity Center in Vernonm New Jersey, one of the nation’s first non-profit outdoor winter environment dedicated to improving the lives of youth through winter activity. Through its program the Center provides instruction, healthy meals, equipment, and role model. Through partnerships with YMCAs, Boys & Girls Clubs, Schools, and other youth-serving agencies, the Center served more than 1160 children this past year and expects that number to increase to 2200 in 2018.
“I know that would not be where I am in life without the guidance i received from those who protected or sheltered me from things that could have gotten in my way growing up. I’ve invested all my heart in the Center. To be able to run a business and be in the industry I have passion for, while also giving back and actually seeing the excitement and changes in the kids, makes this experience truly mean the world to me.”

23、What's the purpose of building patience abilities? In a word, happiness. Better relationships, more success. But indeed it takes efforts to build them successfully. Effective ways are recommended to train ourselves to work with little pain and annoyance. Thus, when the big ones come, we will have developed the patience we need for hard times.
Understand the addictive nature of anger and impatience. We, human beings, are still constructed with our old reptilian brain that protects our physical and emotional survival. On the emotional survival side, we want our way to get ahead, to achieve, and to “look good”. Let's just face it. The urge to protect ourselves and what we consider valuable is absolutely habit-forming. So the first step in growing patience is to get in touch with the addictive quality of the opposite of patience—anger, impatience, blame and shame. We all have them. And we can grow beyond them.
Upgrade our attitude towards discomfort and pain. Pain has its purposes and pushes us to find solutions we try to change the other person, situation or thing that we think is causing our discomfort. But the problem is that it is not the outside thing that is the source of our pain, but how our mind is set. So the solution to pain is an inside job.
Pay attention when the impatience or pain starts. Most of us don't really realize it when we are feeling even the smallest—but very present—painful feelings. We ignore the fact that we're in pain and focus completely on fixing the problem. But to really care for ourselves, get curious about what's actually happening in the moment inside you, Focusing on what's actually happening, you can notice the worry of not wanting what 's happening, the resistance.
Practise optimistic self-talk. When you find yourself impatient or angry with yourself, you can remind yourself that you are growing, and that, “Sure, this is understandable; this is what happens to me when I'm bothered.” You can say to yourself, “It's true. I don't like this; this is uncomfortable, but I can tolerate it,”
【1】Why should we develop patience?
A.To live more happily.
B.To avoid hard times.
C.To realize discomfort.
D.To change our attitude to pain.
【2】What can really cause our discomfort?
A.Our work.
B.Our mind.
C.Our enemies.
D.Our schools.
【3】In which paragraph does the author advise us to be positive?
A.Paragraph 2.
B.Paragraph 3.
C.Paragraph 4.
D.Paragraph 5.
【4】What does the text tell us?
A.Patience is a kind of born quality.
B.We can grow patience by training ourselves.
C.Patience must be developed only in hard times.
D.Nobody can realize bad feelings the moment they happen.
