二、阅读理解(共4题,共 20分)

21、Using body language will make people more likely to be influenced by you. But they will only be persuaded if they also trust you. So it’s equally important to use your body language in a way that makes people feel connected. 【1】.

Start with a smile

【2】, but a smile is powerful for you to connect with other people. Big smiles make people think you are warm and confident. People are always more willing to listen to your point of view if they like you. A smile is the first step in building a good relationship.

Nod your head

If you want people to say “yes” to you, get them nodding in agreement even before you ask a question. If you nod at people, they will feel the urge to do it back. Start by nodding when they talk, as if you’re agreeing with their statements. 【3】, watch their reactions. When they are already nodding, they are much more likely to start agreeing with you.

Stand up

If you are standing up while other people you are talking to are sitting, you will gain the upper hand at once. 【4】. It is important not to stand over them, or to lean in so much that they feel uncomfortable.

【5】

Make sure you don’t stay too close to them. If other people lean or step back, you have certainly shown that you are in control. If you want to be someone who has influence and persuasion, you need people to like you, not to be scared of you.

A.Lean in

B.Shake hands

C.The gesture of leaning in is necessary in talks

D.Here’s how to use your body language effectively

E.It sounds so simple

F.Standing above them makes them feel that you are more powerful

G.Then, when you’re making your own statements

22、Until quarantine (隔离期) ends, we are left picturing what sport we might do: working out at the gym, playing on a competitive sports team, swimming, biking, or rock climbing. However, we don’t often think of martial arts as possible activities; instead, we rule it out because we think it’s dangerous, uncommon, and even, impossible. Martial arts aren’t considered a sport, right?

Well, here’s some good news: you’re wrong! Martial arts aren’t much more common than people think, and you can start learning at any age. Practicing martial arts is a great way to keep in shape, both physically and mentally. They’re much less boring and much less arduous sport than they’re usually described as in movies, so do not worry that they need a lot of effort.

Martial arts generally require you to focus on the position and movement of every one of your legs and arms, sometimes even your breathing too. Think about it: when you leave the gym, your mental state has improved and you are much calmer. This is because you’ve only paid attention to one activity. It is a great way to clear your head. And practicing it can help you learn to stay more focused, which is the greatest advantage of martial arts training.

Martial arts also improve your coordination (协调性), and greatly improve your posture (姿势). I have personally seen students go from slouching (没精打采) to walking tall with their shoulders back in just a couple of months.

There are many styles and countless kinds of martial arts. Whichever one you like better, know that all of them are good choices.

【1】What can we know about martial arts from the first two paragraphs?

A.They often have people hurt.

B.They are difficult to practice.

C.People have a wrong view on it.

D.People practice them more often.

【2】What does the underlined word “arduous” in paragraph 2 mean?

A.Interesting.

B.Difficult.

C.Friendly.

D.Exciting.

【3】What is the biggest benefit of practicing martial arts?

A.Adjusting the breath.

B.Enjoying one’s free time.

C.Correcting the movement.

D.Keeping one’s attention.

【4】What does the writer think of martial arts?

A.They are not sports.

B.They attracted many teenagers.

C.They are beneficial and helpful.

D.They were invented to protect others.

23、Back in the old days, when I was a child, we sat around the family roundtable at dinnertime and exchanged our daily experiences. It wasn't very organized, but everyone was recognized and all the news that had to be told was told by each family member.

We listened to each other and the interest was not put-on; it was real. Our family was a unit and we supported each other, and nurtured each other, and liked each other, and—we were even willing to admit—we loved each other.

Today, the family roundtable has moved to the local fast-food restaurant and talk is not easy, much less encouraged.

Grandma, who used to live upstairs, is now. the voice on long distance, and the working parent is far too beaten down each day to spend evening relaxation time listening to the sandbox experience of an eager four-year-old.

So family conversation is as extinct as my old toys and parental questions such as “What have you been doing, Bobby?” have been replaced by “I'm busy, go watch television.

And watch TV they do; count them by the millions.

But it's usually not children's television that children watch. Saturday morning, the children's hour, amounts to only about 8 percent of their weekly viewing.

Where are they to be found? Watching adult television, of course, from the Match Game in the morning, to the afternoon at General Hospital, from the muggings and battles on the evening news right through the family hour and past into Starsky and Hutch. That's where you find our kids, over five million of them, at 10 p. m. , not fewer than a million until after midnight! All of this is done with parental permission.

Television, used well, can provide enriching experiences for our young people, but we must use it with some sense. When the carpet is clean, we turn off the vacuum cleaner. When the dishes are clean, the dishwasher turns itself off.

Not so the television, which is on from the sun in the morning to the moon at night and beyond!

Parents must exercise some control and show some concern about the cultural influence on the child when a program not intended for that child is viewed. Parents need to intervene (干涉). Nonintervention may be a wise policy in international affairs, but the results of parental nonintervention will not be wise at all.

【1】 From the first two paragraphs one may infer that the writer's a attitude towards “the old days” is______.

A. being tired of B. hating

C. preferring     D. disappointing

【2】The working parent is not willing to listen to her (his) four-year-old child talking about his sandbox games because ______.

A. she (he) is boring   B. she (he) is busy

C. she (he) is very tired   D. she (he) is angry

【3】If we use television with some ______ television can provide our young people with much knowledge.

A. instruction of experts

B. indication of teachers

C. direction of engineers

D. judgment of our own

【4】 What is the main idea of the last paragraph?

A. Parents must exercise some control and show some concern about the cultural influence on the children.

B. Nonintervention may be a good policy in international affairs.

C. Parental nonintervention will not be praised.

D. Parents need to intervene.

Peter was a cheerful and warm-hearted person who was always ready to help others. When he was in college, he got along well with his classmates. After graduating from college, he hunted for jobs several times, but he failed. So he was a little unhappy during the period of time.

One day, when he was surfing the Internet, an advertisement came into his sight. He read the advertisement carefully, which was recruitment (招聘) information. To his delight, the position was in line with his major he studied in the university. The conditions and the pay the company offered were so attractive that Peter decided to have a try. Following the tips provided online, Peter went to the company. There were so many people waiting on the first floor of the building. What Peter didn’t expect was that the company was scheduled to hire not so many employees, but hundreds of applicants were there. Peter was a little worried.

At last, Peter filled out the form as required as many applicants did. A staff of the company told all the applicants to wait for their turns to attend the interview. They waited there excitedly and anxiously, wondering what on earth the interview was! At the moment, a man rushed toward them and said he had something urgent to do. Seeing as if it was going to rain, he could not find enough workers to unload the goods. He asked the group of people to help him.
