二、阅读理解(共4题,共 20分)

21、In a recent survey of more than 1.300 students, 96% said they feel worried about exams【1】There is no doubt that anyone wants to get high marks in exams, so students should learn to deal with exams as calmly and effectively as possible.

Develop a plan.

【2】However most of the students don't plan how they'll be prepared. They just tell themselves they'll study as much as possible—then they'll "hope for the best". This isn't a wise way. Preparing for an exam is like taking on an important project. It's important to outline a plan for how you'll get ready for an exam.

Change the sleep time early.

Many exams are held in the early morning- a time when students don't usually feel very awake. If you'll be taking a morning exam, start sleeping earlier at least one week before the exam so that your body will have time to adjust(适应).【3】Besides, it's also a good idea to get eight hours of sleep each night.

【4】

It's common for-students to spend the 10 minutes before an exam doing some last-minute studying. This may provide some comfort, but overall it does more harm than good. The 10 minutes before an exam will make no difference. If you study during this time, you'll become more stressed and worried【5】

A.Study until the last minute

B.Don't do any last-minute studying

C.This high percentage isn't surprising.

D.This will have a bad influence on your performance

E.This will help you become more confident in the exams.

F.If not, your mind won't be in a good state to take the exam

G.It is of great importance for students to make a proper plan before an exam.

22、What would you do if you couldn’t hold the hands of someone you love? That is the problem 22-year-old Stella Grant and William Newman face. The book Five Feet Apart by US authors Rachael Lippincott, Tobias Iaconis and Mikki Daughtry tells the story of two young cystic fibrosis (CF, 囊性纤维化病) patients who fall in love despite their illness, forcing them to stay two meters away from each other to avoid cross infection.

Grant is a CF patient who shares how she lives with this disease on YouTube to cope with her illness and tries to live a normal life. After experiencing her older sister’s death and her parents’ divorce, she is determined to stay alive for the sake of her broken family. While she is living in the hospital, she meets another CF patient, Newman, who is on a drug trial to try and get rid of a bacterial infection in his lungs. Grant at first dislikes Newman because he was someone who liked to break the rules and take dangerous risks, but after she helps him get back to following his treatments, they begin to fall for each other.

This book is not just about the romance between the characters, but describes a lot of other relationships such as family and friendship. These are two very important parts of everyone’s life. The determination of the characters to keep their relationships with their family and friends really touched me. I would recommend this book to all young people because it has some very powerful messages and also brings awareness to CF.

【1】Why does Grant share her life on YouTube?

A.To find her lover.

B.To get the attention of public.

C.To earn money for medical treatment.

D.To fight against the disease and keep a normal life.

【2】What did Grant experience before she decided to stay alive?

A.Bad luck of her family.

B.Her exciting life in the hospital.

C.Her love story with a young man.

D.Her breakup with Newman.

【3】What can we know from the book Five Feet Apart?

A.Grant’s parents died suddenly at her early age.

B.Newman was an unruly and crazy man after his treatment.

C.Grant and Newman fell in love at first sight in the hospital.

D.Newman continued his treatments with the help of Grant.

【4】Which one can be the best title for the passage?

A.A drug trial.

B.Hospital love story.

C.Treatment in the hospital.

D.Difficulties between two persons.

23、How could we possibly think that keeping animals in cages in unnatural environments—mostly for entertainment purposes—is fair and respectful? Zoo officials say they are concerned about animals. However, Most zoos remain “collection” of interesting “things” rather than protective habitats .

Zoos teach people that it is acceptable to keep animals bored, lonely, and far from their natural homes. Zoos claim to educate people and save endangered species, but visitors leave zoos learning nothing meaningful about the animals’ natural behavior, intelligence, or beauty. Zoos keep animals in small spaces or cages, and most signs only mention the species’ name, diet, and natural range.

The animals’ normal behavior is seldom noticed because zoos don’t usually take care of the animals’ natural needs. The animals are kept together in small spaces, with no privacy and little opportunity for mental and physical exercise. This results in unusual and self-destructive behavior called zoochosis. A world-wide study of zoos found that zoochosis is common among animals kept in small spaces or cages. Another study showed that elephants spend 22 percent of their time making repeated head movements or biting cage bars, and bears spend 30 percent of their time walking back and forth, a sign of unhappiness and pain.

Furthermore, most animals in zoos are not endangered. Captive breeding (圈养繁殖) of endangered big cats, Asian elephants, and other species has not resulted in their being sent back to the wild. Zoos talk a lot about their captive breeding programs because they do not want people to worry about a species (物种) dying out. In fact, baby animals also attract a lot of paying customers. Haven’t we seen enough competitions to name baby animals?

Actually, we will save endangered species only if we save their habitats and put an end to the reasons people kill them. Instead of supporting zoos, we should support groups that work to protect animals’ natural habitats.

【1】According to the author’s description, the animals’ life in zoos is ________.

A.unhappy

B.dangerous

C.meaningful

D.competitive

【2】From the passage, we know that animals ________ in the state of zoochosis.

A.remain active as usual

B.often attack other animals

C.behave strangely

D.enjoy walking around

【3】The author tries to persuade readers to accept his argument mainly by _________.

A.giving examples of animals in the wild

B.pointing out the faults in what zoos do

C.questioning the way animals live

D.discussing the advantages of natural habitats

【4】The author try to convey that________ in the passage.

A.zoos fail in their attempt to save habitats

B.zoos are not worth the public support

C.zoos should treat animals as human beings

D.zoos use animals as a means of entertainment

24、Ways to Host an Eco-Friendly Cookout

Eating in the open air may feel eco-friendly, but outdoor dining can result in unnecessary waste if you aren’t careful. 【1】. Keep that in mind, you’ll be off to a good start.

Make it easy for guests to sort garbage by preparing different dustbins: one for kitchen garbage, one for recyclables, and one for non-recyclables.

Stop Using Plastic

Plastic is a leading cause of litter and isn’t easy to recycle. To make sure your cookout eco-friendly, consider some other options for making your cookout stand out. Use recycled jars as glasses. They’re also far less breakable than regular glasses. 【3】. If guests know which glass is theirs, they don’t need to reach for another one, which cuts down on the cleanup you’ll be doing.

【4】

Wherever possible, shop for local produce and goods to serve your guests. This will reduce your carbon footprint and help support your local economy. Buy produce and meats at your local farmers’ market. Look for organic, but favor local over organic if you have to make a choice.
