21、 Japan recently lowered its voting age from 20 to 18. This decision was in part to help young people feel more engaged in politics. But it may also signal the change of social views regarding the beginning of adulthood.
Adulthood has traditionally been defined by a combination of age and the achievement of social milestones. Most countries have a legally defined age to determine when a person becomes an adult---the age of majority. In Australia, most states consider a person to be an adult in court at 18. The age of 18 is also consistent with other adult privileges, such as the right to purchase alcohol and to marry. However, 17-year-olds can serve in the army and get a driver’s license. The law defines adulthood on the basis of age and it also recognizes the process of becoming an adult as involving gradually in social responsibility. This legal approach to adulthood is mirrored in other countries, where there are differences between the age of majority and social responsibilities given to young people.
Socially, determinants of adulthood traditionally focus on a person taking increasing responsibility for their lives in various ways. Completing school, taking full-time employment, getting married and parenthood---these are all observable indicators to determine when a person is viewed as an adult.
Since the 1980s, however, people have achieved some of these observable milestones at later ages. Increased access to education has delayed young people leaving home and develop romantic relationships. Economic changes have also resulted in unstable employment markets and increases in costs of living, prompting many young people to remain at home and depended on parents.
Due to these social changes, our expectations of young people and their level of social responsibility have also changed. The recognition of a new life stage---emerging adulthood---has been recommended to account for the changes to social milestones that have traditionally represented adulthood.

A.Emerging adulthood reflects a new life stage.
B.Adulthood is defined differently in different places.
C.Social changes are challenging the idea of adulthood.
D.Adulthood is a combination of rights and responsibilities.
22、It’s a classroom. Instead of being told to sit quietly and listen, you are encouraged to stand up, jump around, imagine and act out. It’s a class full of laughter and applause (鼓掌), emotion and energy. Welcome to drama class, one of my favorite classes at high school.
In drama class we used to play a lot of “drama games”. We would improvise (即兴表演), copy and above all use our imagination.
My favorite game was called “Spotto”. One person stood in the front of the class and performed a scene, completely out of their imagination. When one audience member yelled “Spotto!”, the performer had to freeze. Then the person who had yelled Spotto had to get up and improvise a new scenario (剧情) based on the position the first performer froze in. This went on as more and more people were added to the scene. Eventually the entire class would have joined the scene. Then the performers would start to leave in reverse (颠倒的) order.
It was a lot of fun, and a good test of everyone’s imagination to see what they would come up with. Drama class at my school often involved a big performance at the end of the term as well. We would work on a production throughout the term and put on a show for our parents and the school community.
It was a great experience to perform on stage in front of a large audience. Drama class can help shy children, like me, to come out of their shells. It helped them become more confident and developed their public speaking skills. Drama class is also a great place to express oneself, and a way for children to use up some of their energy.
【1】Which do you agree with about the game “Spotto”?
A. Each performer in the game has to retell the story of the latter performer.
B. A performer has to show a story unrelated to that of the former performer.
C. Every student gets the chance to make a contribution to the “Spotto” game.
D. It is designed to help drama students learn from one another’s performance.
【2】The underlined word “them” in the last paragraph refers to “ ”.
A. shy children B. a large audience C. drama students D. the whole class
【3】What do you know about the author according to the article?

B. He was a star student in the drama games.
C. He was shining in big performances each term.
D. He was happy to perform on stage in front of the audience.
【4】What’s the best title for this passage?
A. A few drama games for fun.
B. How to improve drama skills.
C. Unforgettable experiences on stage.
D. One of my favorite high school courses.
23、 Billions of stars and planets fill the sky. Are any of those planets home to intelligent life? Some scientists are trying to find out-by listening!
One group of scientists is asking home computer users to listen for possible radio signals from space. It's not hard to see why the group is called SETI, which stands for Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence. Extraterrestrial indicates something outside of Earth. What exactly is the group listening for? The regular noise of the universe sounds like a waterfall. So, they are listening for unusual sounds, such as pulse or a whistle.
Volunteers from around the world get free screen savers that study the information. Each screen saver shows the users a picture of radio waves coming from their piece of sky. Scientists will review and check the strong signals to rule out false alarms.
This is not the first time SETI listening for sounds from the sky. The first SETI project began over 40 years ago. A young scientist named Frank Drake used an 85-foot antenna (天线)to listen for sounds from a few nearby stars. Today, SETI scientists use a1,000-foot-wide radio telescope.
At one time, the U.S. government gave money toward the SETI project. But some people were against it, and the funding was cut in 1993. One U.S. Senator, Richard Bryan, from Nevada, disliked spending money on the project." Millions of dollars have been spent, and we have not yet bagged a single little green fellow," said Bryan. He was talking about extraterrestrial life.
But that attitude did not undo SETI's belief in the project. Even scientists from NASA(National Aeronautics and Space Administration) back it." We support SETI as a valid research project," says Don Savage, from NASA. "The odds are strong that there is other life, maybe intelligent, in the universe. If they were to find evidence, it would be the greatest discovery in the history of science."
Meanwhile, the SETI scientists are still listening to the stars. They think that there could be millions or billions of years older than we are. And maybe their signals are touching us right now.
【1】What signals are the SETI volunteers listening for?
A.Whistles or pulses.
B.Scientific radio programs.

【2】After scientists review and check the strong signals, false alarms will be______.
A.regrouped with different rules
B.removed from consideration
C.used as evidence by politicians
D.given to the extraterrestrial life
【3】Why did Richard Bryan dislike spending money on the project?
A.No extraterrestrial life has been captured.
B.People don't like those little green fellows.
C.Too many people are involved in this project.
D.Scientific foundation will be shaken by evidence.
【4】NASA scientists believe in the possibility that_________.

24、AI? 5G, cloud computing and other digital technologies are not only changing our lives but shaping the economy as well. China’s six major commercial banks are stepping up digital wallet efforts to encourage the e-CNY trials in the country, as reported by Shanghai Securities News on March 23.
The functions of the e-CNY are exactly the same as those of the paper currency, except that the form is digital,” said Mu Changchun, head of the People’s Bank of China’s Digital Currency Research Institute.
Many people are puzzled by e-CNY and electronic payments. “Digital currency has the characteristics of both paper money and electronic payment?” said Wu Qianhong, a professor at the School of Electronic and Information Engineering, Beihang University. “In theory, digital currency can replace paper money, Alipay and WeChat payments.”
Compared with Alipay and WeChat payments, e-CNY features anonymity (匿名性) and security. E-commerce platforms that accept payments via e-CNY will not have access to users’ personal information. E-CNY users can open an anonymous digital wallet by registering a mobile phone number, and telecom operators cannot disclose customer information to the central bank or any third-party institutions. Mu said that e-CNY users’ privacy protection is at the highest level among all the existing payment tools.
Similar to Alipay and WeChat payments, using e CNY requires an account. After obtaining the other party’s account number, users can enter the amount of digital money to be transferred (转账) and then enter the payment password to complete the transaction (交易). However, the processes behind these transfers are different. For electronic payments, the transfer has to go through a third party, and the receivers will get the transferred money only when they withdraw money from banks. But e-CNY transfers only need a payer and a receiver to complete a transaction. Therefore, it guarantees risk-free payments, according to Wu.
In simple terms, e-CNY can be considered “money”, while electronic payments are like “wallets”. “Since Alipay and WeChat Pay are payment channels, they can use e-CNY for payment after upgrading,” said Wu.
“The promotion of e-CNY is a gradual and inclusive process”, Cheng Shi, the chief economist and managing director of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China International, wrote in an article for China Daily.
【1】What can we know about e-CNY?
A.It is issued by six major commercial banks.

【2】What does the underlined word “disclose” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Claim.
B.Reveal.
C.Deliver.
D.Confirm.
【3】What can we infer from paragraph 5?
A.E-CNY is more convenient and secure than other electric payments.
B.E-CNY ensures security the same way as other electronic payments do.
C.E-CNY transfers have to be made through a third party.
D.E-CNY can be transferred without the receivers information.
【4】What’s the main purpose of the article?
A.To compare different types of payment.
B.To inform readers of digital RMB.
C.To promote the use of e-CNY.
D.To describe the influence of digital technologies.

26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Once, I was traveling with my mum and elder sister. It was a day journey and we entered the ladies’ compartment (隔间) of the train, where the seats all had “Ladies” written on the back. It was crowded but we got seats and settled down. We kept our luggage under the seats and waited for the train to start.
Ladies kept on coming inside. The seats were quickly taken, and there were even people standing along the aisles, which made the people in the compartment seem to be breathless. Only one seat was empty when a woman with a baby entered. She was about to go over to the empty place, when a burly (结实的) looking man entered, walked straight over to the empty seat, and sat down with a thump (砰的一声), taking no notice of his surroundings.
The lady with the child held on to her bag and stood in a corner. I was watching all this with a frown. I expected the woman standing there or any of the other ladies to speak out asking the man to leave the ladies’ compartment.
Alas! No one spoke. Most ladies there seemed to be busy with their own business, including my mom and sister who had their eyes shut trying to rest, unaware of anything wrong. I decided I could not disturb them. I kept on feeling upset with frustration, wanting to help in some way. I would have offered my place but I was already sitting between my mom and sister, both of whom were stronger than me, so I couldn’t move a bit.
The train had started and was gaining speed minute by minute. The woman standing there was swaying to and fro with the train’s speed, the screaming child in her arms. The mannerless man had no reaction. I couldn’t stand it any more.
