21、Exams are an important type of assessment almost all students will need to undertake. The best way to study is not to recite it all in hours or minutes before an exam. Exam stress affects most students in various ways. 【1】
How do you face such an important day? If you have not been able to study the complete contents till now, don’t long to finish it all. 【2】In your bag, collect all your supplies such as pencils, several pens and other important writing materials. Put the bag and everything else that you might need in one place. This will help to reduce your worries in the morning.
When you arrive at the hall, surround yourself with friends who are supportive or just go through your notes quietly. Always make it a point to study the subjects which you find easier to learn first. 【3】Therefore, do not go round asking crazily for the answer. This will just upset you and send you into panic mode.
【4】Before the examination starts, make sure your question paper is complete. Read the instructions carefully. Settle the easy questions first. Divide your time carefully for each question and move on to the next question even if you have not finished the first.
Finally, after each paper, go home and rest. Do not worry about what you could have done or haven’t done. Try not to discuss the answers with your friends. 【5】

B.When you are in the examination room, follow these steps.

22、For his 86th birthday, Cheng Xiangwen enjoyed a corn-shaped cake his colleagues had prepared for him. “My birthday wish is to develop better corn varieties,” he says. After the celebration, he began another journey to Sanya, in South China’s Hainan Province, where he has worked most of his life. Cheng is a scientist in agriculture and spends most of his life studying and cultivating (栽培) corn. He visits Sanya in November every year and stays there for six months to cultivate corn.
Once, when he was conducting a field survey, a female farmer said to him in tears, “You graduated from college. Could you please find a way to increase the corn output here? If the yields (产量) are higher, our children will no longer suffer from hunger.” Since then, Cheng has made developing high-yield corn varieties his life’s mission.
In 1964, he came to Hainan, where it was warmer, and started his work there. He greatly shortened the cultivation period and created hybrid corn varieties for the first time. With these new varieties, farmers in Xunxian County saw their average corn output was more than 3,750 kg per hectare per year.
Despite the beautiful coastline, the environment where Cheng works used to be troubled by poverty and poor traffic. Locals once described the area as having a large number of rats, mosquitoes, and poisonous snakes. At that time, he did everything on his own. He lived in a local villager’s house and he frequently went to the mountains to chop firewood to cook. His hard work, however, has paid off. Now, authorities have approved 14 new, high-yield corn varieties Cheng helped develop.
Cheng is dedicated to developing high-yield corn varieties with stronger resistance and they are easier to harvest with machines. He still goes to the fields each day and observes and records the corn plants. “Cultivating seeds is like raising kids. Only by careful parenting can you become familiar with their strengths and weaknesses and help them to grow up healthily,” he says.

23、Like most foreigners from English-speaking countries, Holt’s first job in China was teaching English in training centers and middle schools. Since November, 2021, he has been a teacher at New Channel, a Beijing-based language training institute. “I teach them theater,” he said.
Holt was very shy as a kid. In the first grade, he was invited to “star” in Romeo and Juliet. He declined. But his teacher insisted on giving him the biggest part. “He gave me the power to empower(给予力量) myself,” Holt explained. He intended to pass on that same feeling. So he studied theater and education at the Evergreen State College in the US, and then went to Asia, first the Republic of Korea, then China.
“Teaching theater and public speaking in China is wonderful,” he said. Training aside, he and his colleagues also adapt Chinese stories, like The Monkey King, into English screenplays for students. “Children literally want to be as dramatic as possible instead of just reciting words,” he said.
But teaching is not all it’s cracked up to be. “The biggest challenge is to get the introverted (内向的) kids—or adults—to speak up,” Holt added. Making the shyest kid the director is one of his methods to build them up. And the change with them is noticeable: students who’d barely utter a word before end up being the loudest person in the room. “I love to see that turnaround,” Holt said.
His future plan is to get as many children as possible to feel more empowered, and “make theater a little bridge” between China and other countries.
Art makes for a universal conversation start. Despite disagreements among different countries, people from different countries can get along well through art. “I think it’s a really powerful thing that we can all share,” he said.
【1】How did Holt react when invited to “star” in Romeo and Juliet?
A.He didn’t show interest in the least.

D.He turned it down owing to shyness.

C.It can help children overcome any challenge.
D.It can change conventional teaching methods.
【3】What does the underlined phrase in the last paragraph mean?

24、 The great outdoors: it’s the place to head for when you' re in need of peace and quiet, open spaces, beautiful scenery and exercise. Whether a huge mountain range or a local country park, these natural areas are perfect for us to refresh from our stressed-out lives, and their therapeutic effect is being used more and more to treat mental health.
As an example, in the foothills of the Snowdonia National Park in the UK, specialist therapy sessions are held to help people who suffer from depression, anxiety and stress. Outdoor art-related activities are held for patients, but the setting alone has been credited with improving the mood of patients. Art psychotherapist Pamela Stanley told the BBC that there was a “growing body of evidence” to support eco-therapy.
It' s true that for most of us connecting with the natural world definitely lifts our spirits. But the mental health charity Mind says eco-therapy has been recognized as a formal type of treatment that can sometimes be prescribed to someone by a doctor. It doesn’t involve taking medication, hut instead it just develops a person' s relationship with nature. This natural remedy can take on many forms, including doing yoga in a forest, gardening or even hugging a tree.
Evidence has shown there are many benefits of this “green” therapy, including improving social contact, social and work skills and coping abilities. It's what Dr. Rachel Bragg from the University of Essex calls “psychological restoration”. She told the BBC’s All in the Mind programme that nature-based therapies should be part of a “toolkit” of care for patients.
Of course, eco-therapy won't cure everything, but it is an option for therapists to use. And as we become more aware of the causes and effects of mental health, it' s good to know that help might lie outside our towns and cities, and that nature can give us a helping hand.
【1】In what way does nature work in the therapeutic effect?
A.It helps people get much relieved.
B.It helps people do bodybuilding.
C.It is doctor1 s preference for treatments.
D.It can help us fully recover from the illness.
【2】What does the underlined word “remedy” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.option
B.contact
C.treatment
D.effect
【3】What might be the best way of receiving eco-therapy?
A.Tending a garden.
B.Taking medicine.
C.Meditating at home.
D.Gathering with friends.
【4】What is Dr. Rachel Bragg's attitude towards the eco-therapy?
A.Unwilling.
B.Negative.
C.Neutral.
D.Positive.
