22、The beloved and longtime host of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, Fred Rogers was born on march20, 1928, in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.

After graduating from Latrobe High school, Rogers was admitted to Dartmouth College, where he studied for a year before transferring(转学) to Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. Rogers, who’d begun playing the piano at a young age, graduated with high honour in 1951 with a degree in music composition.

During his senior year of college he visited his parents and was amazed by the family’s newest household addition: a television set. He could see a bright future for the medium and, as he’d later remembered, Rogers immediately decided he wanted to be a part of it.

Rogers’ first job in television came in 1953 when he was employed to work in programming by WQED in Pittsburgh, a recently launched community TV station that was the first of its kind in the country.

In the following year, he was co-producing a new program, The Children’s Corner. This allowed Rogers, who’d fallen in love with puppetry(木偶戏) as a child, to introduce some of his favourite puppets from his home to his young audience.

As his experience grew, so did his aspirations(抱负). He earned his divinity(神学) degree in 1962. After that Presbyterian Church asked him to serve children and families through television. The show, organized by five Singaporean college students, will start the yearly Anti-Drug Abuse Campaign of this year. Besides the main attraction, there are many kinds of anti-drug games for people to play.

“Sam’s Journey” takes visitors through a maze of activities and information that lets them experience how “Sam’s” life was destroyed by drug abuse.

The maze starts with how“Sam”first started using drugs and became heavily dependent on them. In the middle of the maze, visitors get to wear a specially-designed pair of glasses trying to copy what it is like to be under the influence of drugs. Then visitors go through a dark room with lights flashing that give them an experience similar to the side effects of using drugs.

“Sam’s”life goes further downhill once police officers catch him. Visitors get to experience what it is like in prison as one of the maze checkpoints is a prison cell (a small room built for prisoners).

“We did not want to feed information through experts. We wanted people to walk through this maze to learn about drug abuse and its bad influences,”said Mr Jenson Seah, one of the five Singaporean students.

As the student organizers hope visitors will learn valuable lessons from the show, they too realize that putting the event together was an enriching experience.
