二、阅读理解(共4题,共 20分)

26、In the 2010s, 34-year-old Brianne Miller travelled around the world and made a surprising discovery: large amounts of plastic littering the water and doing harm to sea life. Miller knew she needed to do something.

Canadians throw out three million tons of plastic waste each year. Groups like A Greener Future, which organize litter clean-ups across Canada, think that 33% of what they pick up comes from food packaging. About one third of food produced worldwide goes to waste too, according to a UN study. Miller decided to solve the problem at the source, imagining a shop where both wasteful packaging and the bad habit of wasting food no longer existed.

In June 2018, she opened her first zero-waste store in Canada. She named it Nada. Customers can bring their own containers (容器), though it’s not necessary: by the front door are quarrels don’t go that far. These days, especially in cities, many people live in buildings. Our neighbours are all around us — so what problems can come from that?

The first obvious cause of arguement is noise pollution. Loud noise through the walls, construction (施工), or people arguing next door can disturb the silence of your living space. Asking someone directly to turn the music down can cause you to feel anxious. However, if you get someone like a building manager to speak to your neighbour, it can make things more awkward because you didn’t speak to your neighbour directly.

And then what about smells? If your neighbour likes eating food with pungent (刺激的) smells, and the smells flow through your window, what can you do? There are some other common problems, such as water running through the wall, pets making noise, and littering from the window above you. These can bring anger over time.

It’s not easy living next door to someone, especially if they’re noisy. But having a clear and honest conversation might help. Also, try thinking if what you are doing could make your neighbours angry. If it’s something that would make you feel bad, maybe think again.

D.They make you uncomfortable.

【4】What is the last paragraph mainly about?

A.How to make a neighbor happy.

27、   Obesity should be defined by a person's health - not just their weight, says a new Canadian clinical guideline. It also advises doctors to go beyond simply recommending diet and exercise. Instead, they should focus on the root causes of weight gain and take a holistic(整体的)approach to health.

Ximena Ramos-Salas, the director of research and policy at Obesity Canada and one of the guideline's authors, said research shows many doctors discriminate(歧视) against obese patients, and that can lead to worse health outcomes regardless of their weight. "Weight bias(偏见)is not just about believing the wrong thing about obesity," she told the BBC. "Weight bias actually has an effect on the behaviour of healthcare doctors."

Although the latest advice still recommends using diagnostic(诊断的)criteria like the body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference, it admits their clinical limitations and says doctors should focus more on how weight affects a person's health. Small reductions in weight, of about 3-5%, can lead to health improvements and an obese person's "best weight" might not be their "ideal weight" according to BMI, the guideline says.

It emphasizes that obesity is a complex, chronic condition that needs lifelong management. "For a long time we've associated obesity as a lifestyle behaviour. It's been a lot of shame and blame before," Ms Ramos-Salas says. "People living with obesity need support like people living with any other chronic diseases." But instead of simply advising patients to "eat less, move more", the guideline encourages doctors to provide supports along the lines of psychological therapy(治疗), medication and bariatric surgery like gastric-bypass surgery(胃分流手术).

The guideline doesn't completely give up standard weight-loss advice. "All individuals, regardless of body size or composition, would benefit from adopting a healthy, well-balanced eating pattern and engaging in regular physical activity," it says.

A.Obesity is completely caused by a wrong lifestyle.

B.Obesity patients can be improved by reducing their weight.

【2】What does Ximena Ramos-Salas support according to Paragraph 2?

A.Discrimination against obese patients badly exist among doctors.

B.Many doctors don’t like patients whatever illnesses they suffer.

C.Obese patients are often misunderstood by healthcare doctors.

D.More and more patients become fat because of discrimination from doctors.

【3】How can people keep healthy according to the guideline?

A.By eating only vegetables and no meat

B.By working out as much as they can

C.By going on a diet as often as possible

D.By developing a balanced eating habit and exercising regularly

【4】What can be the best title of this passage?

28、Denis Mukwege never planned to become Dr Miracle, an awardwinning doctor. He grew up in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) (刚果民主共和国). In fact, it was visiting the sick with his father that made him want to become a doctor in the first place.

The country has experienced more than twenty years of fighting and Congolese women have suffered the worst. In order to control the country’s valuable mineral deposits   (矿床), rebel (反叛) groups are attacking women in the area.

One man stands strongly against this huge harm. He first set up Panzi Hospital made of tents (帐篷) in 1999. After losing the hospital the same year in the crossfire of the Second Congo War, Mukwege rebuilt it the following year. Since then, Panzi Hospital has grown to a major health center. There, Mukwege reportedly cares for more than 3,500 women a year, sometimes performing as many as 10 operations a day.

Year after year, Mukwege puts his life on the line to help injured women. In 2012, Mukwege’s devotion to this cause was tested after almost being killed and his daughters being taken hostage (人质). He and his family escaped to safety in Sweden and then to Belgium. Thanks to a movement by local Congolese women who raised money for a return ticket, the doctor was able to go home. Although Mukwege went back to the DRC, he was forced to live inside the hospital under the protection of UN peacekeepers.

Last year when operating in the hospital, Mukwege heard the news that he, along with Nadia Murad, had been awarded the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize. “When I see how strong women are,” Mukwege said, “all my energy comes.” Winning the Nobel Peace Prize could be the first step towards an end to violence against women.
