26、There are some bad cell phone habits that can have serious social, academic, health, and legal consequences. So, it is important and necessary to educate your teen about unhealthy habits. Here are some bad habits that teens need to stop:
Talk on the phone in quiet public areas. Make sure that your teen knows it is not OK to talk on the phone in theaters, libraries, waiting rooms, or other quiet public areas.【1】
Stare at their phones for hours. Many people--not just teens--are spending their days mindlessly scrolling through news feeds and social media accounts. 【2】 So set healthy limits on your teen’s cell phone use so he can enjoy real world experiences.
Make private conversations public. The whole world doesn’t need to know about the latest drama among your teen’s friends or the most recent family issue you’ve been experiencing. 【3】 Tell him to go to a private area if he must continue a phone conversation.
Take unsuitable pictures.【4】 Unfortunately, that can often lead to taking selfies in dangerous places. Talk to your teen about the dangers of taking and sharing unsuitable photos.
【5】 The rules about smartphone use in the classroom vary from school to school. Regardless of your school’s policies, cell phone use during school can serve as a major distraction. Talk to your teen about turning his phone off during the school day so he won’t use it.
A.Use the phone during school.

G.Smartphone cameras mean teens can take photos almost anywhere anytime.
27、 Technology is making life easier for some dairy farmers. They use robotic systems to milk their cows. These systems are designed to reduce labor and increase milk production.
Cows are trained to follow a series of paths that lead to the milking stations. Only one cow at a time can enter the station. Once inside, the cow is rewarded with food. As the cow eats,a robotic arm cleans and connects the animal to the milking machine. A few minutes later, the milking is completed. The gate is lifted. The cow leaves and the next cow enters. The robotic systems are designed to operate twenty four hours a day. Cows are milked on average about three times a day. Some are milked four to six times a day. The cows wear collars(颈圈) around their necks that identify them to the system. A computer keeps records on their eating and milking. A cow is released from the station if the computer decides it should not be milked. The system also measures the temperature and color of the freshly produced milk. Milk is thrown away if it does not pass the tests. Cows need two to four weeks to learn to use the robotic milking systems. Once trained, the cows no longer require human assistance, unless something goes wrong.
Professor Plaut heads the Department of Animal Science at Michigan State University. She believes the systems will attract especially the next generation of farmers who are more interested in technology and less interested in working all the time on the farm. Still, she says the price of robotic milking systems will continue to limit their use. Doug Suhr has more than one hundred milking cows on his farm. Last year it became the fourth farm in southeast Minnesota to get a robotic milking system. A recent story in a local agricultural newspaper said the first robot cost $175,000 and the second cost $150,000.Doug says the increase in milk production reaches a high of more than 6kg per cow per day.
【1】Under robotic milking systems,______ decide(s) whether a cow is suitable to be milked.
A.the robotic arms B.the dairy farmers
C.the cows themselves D.a computer
【2】When is human assistance needed during the milking?
A.When the cows enter the milking station every morning.
B.When a robotic arm connects a cow to the milking machine.
C.When the cows are trained to use the robotic milking system in the first two to four weeks.
D.When the temperature and color of the freshly produced milk are measured.
【3】Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the last paragraph?
A.Since Doug got the robotic milking system, milk production on his farm has increased.
B.The price of milking machines decreases $25,000 every year.
C.Doug has the largest farm in southeast Minnesota.
D.There are four farms in southeast Minnesota that have robotic milking systems so far.
【4】It can be inferred from the passage that ________.
A.the price of robotic milking systems will greatly decrease
B.robotic milking systems are still too expensive to be popular
C.most farmers are too old to use robotic milking systems
D.robotic milking systems don't need to work at night
28、Directions: Read the following passage. Fill in each blank with a proper sentence given in the box. Each sentence can be used only once. Note that there are two sentences more than you need.
If a woman has an extra piece of cake, don't blame it on greed, blame it on her brain.
Scientists have found that women’s brains react to food very differently- and much more strongly - than men's. Academics found that decades of dieting pressure on women and advertising have programmed certain parts of the female brain to react strongly when faced with any kind of food. 【1】
Dr. Rudolf Uher and his colleagues at the Institute of Psychiatry in King's College London used brain scanning technology, known as functional magnetic resonance imaging(FMRI), to look at the brains of eighteen men and women.
【2】 Their brain reactions were observed by the scientists. They found that the female brains reacted much more strongly than those of males.
The same reaction did not happen when they were shown non-food images. The team believed this means women think more about food than men tend to.
Dr. Uher said, 'This could be related to biological differences between men and women. 【3】'
Professor Carey Cooper, psychology and health professor at Lancaster University, said, 'For centuries women have had a providing role - preparing and cooking food for their families. And it is part of that role to make sure the food is safe. They will therefore be much more sensitive to food than men are, and I would not be surprised if that was now built into their DNA. If the female brain react to food because it historically has developed neural (神经的)pathways to do this, then food will be the way they express their stress. 【4】'
But other experts have said that more research must be done before the results can be proved. American scientist Angelo del Parigi of the John B. Pierce Laboratory in New Haven, Connecticut, said, 'Looking at an FMRI alone cannot make sure whether the stronger reaction in women is due to innate (天生的) differences or a learned process. '
A.Men, on the other hand, are not usually as obsessive about what they eat.
B.And experts are exploring how these biological differences can contribute to human health.
C.The volunteers were given images of food to look at, as well as food to taste.
D.But the more likely explanation is that women have a more complicated reaction to food because of social pressure.
E.Food actually, is a comfort for women.
F.If a woman is always asking whether she's fat, it's because her food thoughts are mostly related to dieting.
29、Robot are about to enter our lives. From doing housework, entertaining and educating our children, to looking after the elderly, scientists say we will soon be welcoming robots into our homes and workplaces.
Researchers believe we are on the cusp (过渡点) of a robot revolution that will mirror the quick growth of the computer revolution. They are developing new laws for robot behavior, and designing new ways for humans and robots to communicate.
“I think robots will change who we are, just as eyeglasses and fire changed who we were before, says Rodney Brooks, a director of the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.
Some ideas and technologies may sound like science fiction, but they are fast becoming science fact. Robots scientists invented are already beginning to perform everyday tasks like cleaning our floors. The latest types from Japan are able to help the elderly to get out of bed or get up after a fall. They can also remind them when to take medication (药物), or even help wash their hair.
“Robot now are not human-like. For example they are things like automatic (自动的) beds and wheelchairs,” says Prof Hiroshi Ishiguro at Osaka University, Japan. He believes the time is coming when robots start looking less like machines, and more like us. “In the near future we are going to use more human-like robots. I really think so, says Prof Ishiguro.
Prof Maja Mataric at the University of Southern California agrees. “I’m very excited about the fact that today we are trying to make robots that look like human beings,” she says.
“I believe we love robots because they’re reflections (反映) of ourselves,” says Ken Goldberg, director of the Berkeley Center for New Media at the University of California at Berkeley.
“Robots could be used in education, learning, and healthcare, where social support is important,” says Dr. Cynthia Breazeal, director of the Personal Robots Group at MIT.

The event that stands out in Tom’s memory happened one morning when Tom was only ten years old.He was at home with his elder sister Jane.Tom was doing his homework when he heard raised voices. At first he thought nothing of it since customers in the motorcycle shop directly below their flat often became loud, but he soon realized this time it was different.
“Quick! Quick! Remove the motorcycles from the shop.” someone shouted. Then a thick burning smell filled the air. When Tom opened the front door of their flat to investigate,a thick cloud of smoke greeted him.The motorcycle shop had caught fire and people were running and crying.
Jane, who had been playing the violin in her room, hurried to the living room. They rushed out of the door and along the corridor (走廊) through the smoke.
They were heading towards the stairway at the far end of the corridor when Jane suddenly stopped in her track. She turned around and headed back the way they came.Tom had no idea what she was doing, but he followed her.
Jane had suddenly remembered the lady in her 70s who lived next door to them, who they called Makcik.Jane began banging on Makcik’s door, but got no answer. As the smoke thickened around them,Tom could see many of their neighbors—some still in their pajamas (睡衣)—running for safety. The thought of fear crossed his mind.
“She would have run for safety like everyone else!” Tom cried. However,Jane refused to give up.“I know Makcik’s still inside.” She said she was familiar with Makcik’s daily routine and was certain she would still be sleeping. She pounded against the door.“Go downstairs.Go now! Go!”
