24、 Are you truly happy? Do you ever know what it means to be happy and what it takes to achieve happiness? These are important questions for anyone who is looking for happiness. The following are a few tips that will be very helpful to you.
Firstly, making a plan will make you happy. Your moods will be very wonderful if you get ready to achieve goals or if you are going after something you value.

Fourthly, spend a few minutes each day thinking about the things that make you happy. These minutes will help you focus on the positive things in your life. It’s also important to spend some time each day doing something nice for yourself .Whether you have lunch, take a relaxing bath or simply spend a few minutes on your appearance, you will put yourself in a better mood.
Fifthly, finding the humor in situations can also lead to happiness. Finding a way to look down upon a situation can make you happy, too.

26、 I have a happy family. I live with my father, my mother, my brother and Teddy. Teddy cooks wonderful food, loves wine and, most importantly, describes me with the words “the best”. I can’t live without that.
My father likes cooking and that’s why we always have great food at home. So we don’t like to go to restaurants. He also likes to watch the TV news at least four times a day and knows all of the people who have ever appeared in new programs.
My mother laughs uncontrollably. She thinks stealing her purse is “a great international city experience”, because it could happen in any city in the world even if there was much money in the purse. Having a mother like her is a bit like having a sister. Perfect mothers are, of course, also experts in all fields, including medicine.
My brother decided to break the family tradition after several years as an airline pilot. He always tells me not to get discount (打折) tickets, but I think it is unfair. I should also say that he’s a great man, because he’s flying an airplane in the sky.
The family got even bigger when my brother married a lovely woman named Paulina. My family will be even bigger at the end of the summer, when I become an aunt.

27、From a young age, I’ve had a really deep connection with being outside. I’ve been skiing since I was eight or nine years old. I’ve been on expeditions(探险)in many places like China, Pakistan and so on. But it was in my home country, the USA, that I came closest to death.
It was April 1, 2011. I was skiing in the Tetons with my friends Jeremy and Xavier, both experienced snowboarders. That day, I was the last person to ski. They were watching me from a safe area. Suddenly, I heard someone cry loudly. I turned around and saw the whole mountain start to move behind me. It was a massive avalanche(大雪崩). The kind of avalanche that destroys trees, cars, buses, even houses! Tens of thousands of tons of snow were coming straight down the mountain behind me. I felt the snow push me forward, hundreds of meters, and then cover me. It was so heavy that I couldn’t breathe. And then it pushed me forward again and up, out of the snowpack. I looked around, and for a few seconds I actually stopped being terrified. I had a moment to pause and to look at the power of the avalanche.
I looked down into the bottom of the valley(峡谷). I could see trees that were 30m tall, because I was so far away, they looked tiny to me. “OK, I’ m going all the way to the bottom!” I thought. Then the snow pushed me again down the mountain another 450m. I thought the force of the snow would destroy me, it was powerful. But in the end, I felt the avalanche slow down and l just popped(迸出) right out of the snow at the bottom of the valley.
It took Jeremy and Xavier about 20 minutes to reach me. There was a pile of debris(碎片)across the bottom of the mountain 300m wide. They couldn’t believe it when they saw me. I was so lucky.
Has the experience changed me? Do I think about life differently? I don’t know, maybe. But I do know that it’s important to live your life with meaning. Life is a gift, so use it wisely.

There’s no place like home
Some people dream of having a home ‘just like the ones in decorating magazines’. That sort of beautifully stylish home may be n【1】, but for a truly special place to live, why not choose a home unlike any other in the neighbourhood? The unique(独一无二的) houses on these pages challenge people to reconsider what a home is s【2】 to look like.
Environmentally friendly homes are getting a lot of a【3】 these days. Earthships, for example, are unusual homes made from materials like mud, straw and reused wood. The designers of earthships combine these natural materials with recycled i【4】, such as bottles, cans and old tyres. These homes show their belief that, when it comes to saving the environment, ‘if you aren’t part of the solution, you’re part of the problem.’
Additionally many of these homes use wind or solar power. They are designed to collect and recycle water, and the people who live in them often add a greenhouse in which to grow food. As a result, if you live in an earthship, your monthly living costs will d【5】 to almost zero. For people who want to try one out, the Phoenix Earthship in the US is available as holiday accommodation(住宿).
Shipping containers are now being reused to make a【6】 type of environmentally friendly home. A number of architects have started changing individual containers into holiday homes. Alternatively they can be combined to make office blocks and blocks of flats, such as those Container City in London, England.
With all of the examples of imaginative homes, it is clear that people no longer need to settle for ordinary living spaces. One thing is sure: people living in homes that look as s【7】 as these never have to give anyone their address. They can just say, ‘Look for the weird house. You will know it when you see it.’
