26、Film director James Cameron first became interested in sea exploration when he was a little boy. His love for the ocean grew after he made the 1989 undersea adventure film The Abyss and the 1997 blockbuster Titanic, one of the most successful movies of all time. Following that big success, James Cameron decided to put his film career on hold to become an explorer.
In 2012, James Cameron made a journey to the deepest spot in the Mariana Trench, known as Challenger Deep. And now the great journey has been made into a documentary film, named James Cameron’s Deep-sea Challenger 3D.
In James Cameron’s fantasy films, such as Avatar and The Abyss, the unexplored areas are decorated in colors and full of danger. But on his dive into Challenger Deep, the reality proved far different: white, deserted and dull.
“I felt like I had gone to another planet,” Cameron said after returning from the cold and dark place in the Western Pacific Ocean, nearly 7 miles below the surface. “I really have a sense of being separated and realize how tiny I am down in this big, black and unexplored place.”
Cameron captured(获取)the moon-like landscape of the deep sea and documented the sea creatures he observed in the ocean.
James Cameron’s Deep—sea Challenger 3D tells the story of Cameron’ s journey. It is a film about determination, danger and the ocean’S greatest depths. The movie shows a unique insight into Cameron’s world when he makes his dream reality and makes history by becoming the first person to travel alone to the deepest point on the planet.

27、Technically, many of the healthy foods we eat are processed, but not in the way you might think. For example, if you have a Mason jar full of organic dried beans, you have processed food in your fridge. Frozen vegetables are processed, even if you picked the vegetables from your garden, blanched(焯水)them and put them in the fridge. The moment you blanched them, you processed them. When we say we shouldn’t eat processed foods, what we really mean is ultra-processed foods.
What are ultra-processed foods? If I made flatbread at home, I would make it with materials like flour, yeast, milk, butter and salt. I keep whole-grain flatbread in my freezer because it deteriorates quickly. Healthy meals for sure. But I normally buy them from the grocery store, and while the bread I buy contains almost the same materials as a homemade version, it also includes the dextrose, type of sugar, and some other additives. Then it can be called an ultra-processed one.
If we ate ultra-processed foods only occasionally, it wouldn’t be as big of a problem. However, researchers indicated that almost 58% of the calories Americans consume are from ultra-processed foods. A study found people who increased their daily intake of ultra-processed food by 10% increased their risk of developing overall cancer by 12% and breast cancer by 11%.
While the study didn’t identify the exact reason why ultra-processed foods cause a higher risk of cancer, researchers did have several theories. One theory is that the foods contain high levels of salt, sugar and fat. Those materials have been linked to overweight, which can also lead to a greater risk of cancer. A second theory is that some ultra-processed foods contain certain additives that lead to cancers. Also another theory is high temperatures used to process the food can create newly formed pollutant. Finally, bpa(Bisphenol A)(双酚 A)is commonly used in food packaging and can leak into the food.
While further studies are needed to know the exact reasons why ultra-processed foods can have such an impact on health, it’s safe to say that the consequences of eating them outweigh the benefits.
【1】Which of the following is an ultra-processed food?
A.Flatbread from stores.
B.Frozen vegetables.
C.Organic died beans.
D.Homemade flatbread.
【2】What does the underlined word “deteriorates” in Paragraph 2 mean?

C.Reasons for cancers caused by ultra-processed foods are definite.
D.Too much sugar, salt, and fat contribute to overweight, and even cancers.
【4】What’s the author’s attitude to the ultra-processed food?
A.Supportive
B.Neutral
C.Disapproving
D.Unconcerned
28、No one knows exactly how many disabled people there are in the world, but estimates (估计) suggest the figure is over 450 million. The number of disabled people in India alone is probably more than double the total population of Canada.
In the United Kingdom, about one in ten people have some disability.Disability is not just something that happens to other people: as we get older, many of us will become less mobile, hard of hearing or have failing eyesight.
Disablement can take many forms and occur at any time of life. Some people are born with disabilities. Many others become disabled as they get older. There are many progressive disabling diseases. The longer time goes on, the worse they become. Some people are disabled in accidents. Many others may have a period of disability in the form of a mental illness. All are affected by people's attitude towards them.
Disabled people face many physical barriers.Next time you go shopping or to work or visit friends, imagine how you would manage if you could not get up steps, or on to buses and trains. How would you cope if you could not see where you were going or could not hear the traffic? But there are other barriers: prejudice can be even harder to break down and ignorance inevitably represents by far the greatest barrier of all.It is almost impossible for the able-bodied to fully appreciate what the severely disabled go through, so it is important to draw attention to these barriers and show that it is the individual person and their ability, not their disability, which counts.
【1】The first paragraph points out that __________ .
A.there are many disabled people in the world

29、From the loss of wildlife to rising sea levels, we’re all well aware of the problems that climate change could cause.
But while it may seem like such issues won’t affect most of us directly, it looks like future generations could grow up without something that many of us now take for granted: chocolate.
According to an essay published by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, changes to the climate in the regions that produce cacao--the plant from which chocolate is produced--may mean that it will soon become extinct.
Most of the world’s cacao grows in countries close to the equator (赤道), with over half of it growing in the African nations of Ghana and Ivory Coast. It’s predicted that by 2050, climate change will have accelerated the rate at which temperatures in these countries rise, making it extremely difficult for cacao to grow there.
The problem doesn’t lie in increased heat, however, but in lower humidity(湿度), as it’s believed that rainfall will stay at the same level if the temperature rises.
“In other words, as higher temperatures squeeze more water out of soil and plants, it’s unlikely that rainfall will increase enough to offset the moisture (水分) loss, “ Michon Scott, the essay’s author, wrote.
To help fight this problem, researchers from Berkeley University in the US are working on changing the DNA of cacao plants to allow them to survive in dryer conditions by using gene editing technology, according to US News. In the meantime, US company Mars, one of the world’s biggest manufacturers of chocolate products, announced in January that it would spend $1 billion to help reduce the effects of climate change.
“This is a world issue, and it requires everyone to work together,” Mars spokesperson Barry Parkin told Business Insider.
The message here is that if we all do our part, we may be able to prevent some of the worst impacts of climate change. Or if we’re unlucky, chocolate will become a thing of the past.
【1】What could make it hard for cacao to grow around the equator in the future?
A.the higher temperatures there
B.the higher humidity there
C.the increase in rainfall there
D.the moisture loss in the soil there
【2】What did Barry Parkin suggest?
A.thousand-mile journey begins with the first step.
B.Always prepare for a rainy day.
C.United we stand; divided we fall.
D.Wish for the best; prepare for the worst.
【3】What can we learn from the passage?
A.UC Berkeley is trying to find a substitute for cacao.
B.Cacao can only be found in most African countries.
C.Climate changes can be controlled if we are lucky.
D.Mars will financially support the fight against climate changes.
【4】What may be the best title of this text?

Caught in a flood
Mary and her parents were downstairs in the living room. Mary was looking through the windows at the endless rain outside. It had been raining non-stop for three days. She had never seen a storm this bad. It was making her nervous. The wind roared and the rain beat on the roof and windows. Dad was listening to a weather report on the radio, while Mum was putting their important documents and disaster supplies into a bag.
“Mum, Dad,” said Mary suddenly, “I think we should leave here right away!”
“No,” said Dad. “It’s too late: The radio says the city has already been flooded.”
“We can drive our car through the floodwater. Let’s us leave! I’m really scared!” cried Mary. “We can’t do that, honey,” explained Mum, “otherwise the moving water could wash the car away!”
Mary walked to the door. She was curious to see how much water there was outside.
“Don’t open the door!” shouted Mum and Dad at the same time. “The water may flood in!”
Dad moved the dinner table against the door, in case the floodwater forced the door open. Mum waved to Mary to sit on the sofa. “Mary, don’t worry. Everything’s going to be OK,” she said softly, trying her best to comfort Mary. Her voice was calm, but Mary could tell she was worried too.
Without saying a single word, Dad walked to the sofa, sat down and hugged his wife and daughter. The sudden silence in the house seemed to make the wind and rain more frightening outside. What could they do?
