一、翻译题(共1题,共 5分)

1、   Lunch breaks(午间休息)are important for office workers, since 1. we all need to relax our mind to make it work at its best. And more importantly, it’s the part of the day where we can enjoy some time to ourselves. Normally, a lunch break lasts 60 minutes, which leaves around 40 minutes after eating. You could take a walk, make a phone call to your friends, take a nap(小憩) or even do some sport during this time. For a lot of Chinese workers, 2. 小憩片刻似乎是最受欢迎的放松方式However, a recent China Youth Daily survey found that 3. almost 60 percent of the country’s office workers are not able to enjoy a good nap during their lunch breaks.

If this also happens to you, 4.我们建议你可以写一下关于这一天的事情Doing something else while allowing your mind to relax may be a good choice. Because working overtime at night is often the case and there’s almost no time left before going to bed. 5. Using lunch breaks to write a diary couldn’t be better for people. This also gives your eyes a break from the screen.

Ni first took up the sport when she was 38 and she has been practicing very hard since then. She goes to the park to play skateboard from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. every day before going to work. “Skateboarding has become part of my life,” Ni said. As for how she started the hobby, Ni said, “When I went to the sea some years ago and saw people surfing, I fell in love with it at once. I thought it was the most wonderful sport.”

But there is no sea in Ningxia, so Ni had to “surf” on land. She taught herself by watching videos and taking online classes. She quickly learned the skills and was able to skateboard easily after a week of practice.

Ni is not only popular among young people, but also among middle-aged and old people. She now has a group of six members. The women in the group all say they feel more active after taking up skateboarding. The sport makes them happy and healthy. “We will not stop skateboarding,” Ni added.

25、My father was lame(瘸的) and very short. I was very shy to be seen with my father when I was growing up. When we walked together, he used to put his hand on my arm for balance, and people would stop to watch us. So I didn’t like to go out with him. Sometimes my mother left our town to see her sister, and I had to helphim instead of my mother. I didn’t say much as we went along. As we started out, he always said, “You can walk fast. And I can keep up with you.”

We usually walk to the subway, by which he went to work. He went to work though he was sick or it was bad weather. He almost never missed a day, and could get to the office on time even if others could not. When snow or ice was on the ground, it was impossible for him to walk even with other person’s help. At such times my sister or I would pull him across the streets on a child’s sleigh(雪橇) to the subway entrance.

When I think of it now, I am surprised how much courage(勇气) he had to make his way to the office. I never heard my father complain about it. Now he has been gone many years, but I think of him often. I really want to tell him how sorry I feel for it and how deeply I love him.

26、

Do you ever feel like your thoughts are going around in circles? One minute, you’re thinking about your homework. The next minute , you’re thinking about your plans for the weekend.

Is it possible for us to slow our thoughts down or even stop them completely? It depends on your definition(定义)of “thinking”, according to Michael Halassa, a researcher at MIT, US. We basically go through each day in one of the two states(状态)—we either realize that we are thinking or we don’t. Our brains won’t stop thinking completely until we die.

“The brain never actually stops ‘thinking’ in a broader sense. Most thoughts are actually in the background without us noticing them and there’s not really a way to turn these things off.” Halassa said. Human brains can unconsciously process(无意识地处理)about 11 million pieces of information per second, according to Forbes.

You can compare this to how a computer works. Even when you aren’t using your computer while it’s turned on, it is still running operations “in the background”. Your computer, much like your brain, is constantly “thinking”, even if you’re not actively using it.

Some researchers have referred to this phenomenon(现象)as “thought-chatter”. It describes all kinds of thoughts that pop(出现)in and out of our mind at different times during the day, according to Steve Taylor, a psychology lecturer.

Some thought-chatter can be enjoyable, such as daydreaming. Albert Einstein came up with his famous theory of relativity(相对论)while daydreaming at work. “But too much though-chatter can make us feel too anxious or worried,” Taylor said. “Meditation(冥想)can help us clean up some of this thought-chatter.

【1】The writer introduces the topic to readers by ______.

A.explaining the topic

B.reminding readers of a situation

C.making a conclusion

D.giving the answer to a question

【2】Michael Halassa thinks ______.

A.humans can control their brain completely

B.humans can always realize their brain is working

C.human brains always process information consciously

D.humans sometimes don’t realize their brain is working

【3】Which is TRUE about “thought-chatter”?

A.It can be reduced by meditation.

B.It is the background noises we hear.

C.It always helps us come up with new ideas.

D.It is considered as enjoyable as daydreaming.
