六、阅读理解(共4题,共 20分)

21、   What is celebrity (名人)? The word is mostly used for the famous people in the world of entertainment (娱乐图). Film stars and pop musicians become celebrities if they are very popular or successful. In most (but not all) cases, they become famous by being good at what they do. Their names and faces are familiar (熟悉的) to most people, who have either seen them on stage or read about them in the newspapers and magazines.

Over the years, other groups of people have become eligible for celebrity status (地位). These include sportsmen and sportswomen (such as footballers, tennis players and racing drivers), especially if their success makes them rich. Things are a little different now. It seems that anyone can become a celebrity, no matter whether they have any skills or talent. In fact some usual people have become famous just for performing badly on TV shows.

I do not envy (羡慕) these people. They may be rich. but they have no private (私有的) time and they are not that happy. No matter where they go, they will always be followed by some people, waiting for the opportunity to take an ugly picture that they can share with all over the world.

1What do we know about celebrities?

A. They are all in the world of entertainment.

B. Their being good at what they do makes them famous.

C. They are all film stars and pop musicians.

D. People don’t know their names and faces very well.

2What can we learn from the second paragraph?

A. Sportsmen and sportswomen become famous easily now.

B. Rich people become famous by performing badly on TV shows.

C. It is much easier to be a celebrity now.

D. One must have some skills if he wants to be a celebrity.

3The author does not envy the celebrities because ________.

A. they are not very rich

B. they are not known by many people

C. they cannot do the things they are good at

D. they do not have their private time to relax

22、Sometimes you might feel it impossible to get on with your parents. But in fact, it isn’t as difficult as you think. Follow these ways, and then you’ll improve your relationship with them.

Spend more time with your parents. Your parents won’t always be around, so try to spend more time with them. This doesn’t mean just sitting in front of the TV together. Instead, you should do more activities with your parents together. By doing them, all of you will feel happy and relaxed.

Talk with your parents more often. In order to understand them better, you should talk with them more often. Try to learn more about them. For example, you could ask them about their own childhood. In this way, you will understand them better.

Always listen to your parents. This may seem simple, but it’s often harder than you think. Look at your parents when they are talking. Don’t interrupt (打断) them, and then speak clearly when replying to them.

Share your feelings with your parents. Sometimes your parents also want to learn more about you. Just do your best to open your heart to them. When possible, talk to them about something at school or what you really want to be in the future.

Make your parents feel proud. There are always some ways to make your parents feel good about you. By working hard, you can do well in school or win prizes in games. They will think how lucky they are to have you and be more willing to talk about you in front of others.
